Are the riot rumours true?

ah, the whole "parentless yoofs" vs "moron 30-somethings" argument!!

in my personal experience, neither 'demographic' have been exemplary in their conduct on sunday night. it seems that its acceptable for everyone to act like morons on sunday night, like theres this magic switch that turns people into 'savages' after the lights go down on the mainstage.

last year, i could see both groups making massive fires / blowing up spray cans and gas cannisters / jumping on others tents etc

i just wish it would stop, there isnt really a need, and i dont really want to have to stay up all night watching out / protecting property etc.

im 22 btw, and this year will be my 6th reading, and ive not played a part in any of the stupidity that happens on sunday night. without wanting to sound like im whinging, i do wish it would stop. reading would be the best festival in the uk then.

the riot discussion comes up year after year, yet since its moved to branham park, i believe its been ok, just the odd big fire and idiots throwing things into them. just keep away from scenes like this and you'll be fine. i've never witnessed any violence myself, just fires.

i camp in green and its fine!

at reading at least (though i'm guessing it'll be the same at leeds) just think of it as the further away you camp from the arena the quieter it will be, and the closer you get the more likely you'll encounter the riots.

seriously, if you camp in yellow you'll probably die.

nah, it's not that bad, just so happens that on the sunday night all the dickheads regardless of age come out to play, i noticed (was in reading purple) last year that there were alot of youngish teens seemingly trying to act out some kind of skins fantasy but at the same time there were groups of older lads bowling about like they owned the place too, trying to keep the 'riot reputation' alive or something i guess.

it can get annoying sometimes, and i definately won't be camping anywhere near the toilets because setting the long drops on fire like last year in yellow was just plain stupid, but it's not ever something that would put me off going to reading, i was camping with people ranging in age from 18-31 and on the last night (teens AND 30somethings) we all just kicked back and let the carnage unfold with relative comfort, some people would make you think sunday night reading is up there with the LA riots, but they are just probably trying to sound really cool in front of a girl or something, rather than riots, i would say it's more boisterous, thats all.

except for in yellow camp. yellow camp makes the somme look like disneyworld. if you're camping in yellow you'll need a will and testament prepared. you'll almost certainly get killed. definately, without question. dead. xx
