What a great thread.

I always have a massive grin on my face when I drive early there on the Wednesday. I love looking out for other vehicles obviously going to Glasto and give them a wave and nearly always get a smile and a wave back.

We have yet to hire the car that will take us down but I am already thinking of songs to play on the journey down.

A must is ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, that song makes me smile and dance no matter what! Whenever I hear it I always have a massive smile on my face!

Its all A roads. Depends when you leave too - earlier the better of course. Its usually clear until Bath, when you hit the Wednesday morning commuter and shopping traffic going in and out (from about 08:15 to 09:30. Up the hill and going out (A367), its usually quiet through Radstock and even up to Shepton Mallet after joining A37. Sometimes there's a fair queue in Shepton however, just after passing the Bullmers Cider factory and going under the bridge to the main crossroads (look out for the old Babysham deer on your right outside the factory). Usually clear again afterwards until Pilton junction (between A361 running along North boundary of site, and A37 running S/W along site perimeter). Here the old bill slow things down a bit with their traffic control. Usually go down A361 then through Pilton (though they discorage this), to get to West Car Parks. TBH, it used to be queues all the way from Shepton Mallet to the site in the 90's, but its been fine for years now. However, I expect with even more people going down early on Wednesday this year, these could reappear to some extent. I hear the A37 is being widened around here now as well which might improve things, and several new roundabouts have been put in over last 10 years to reduce the traffic build up and the numbers of deaths on this stretch of road that used to be really quite notorious locally.

AAAHHHHH!! I'm so excited now!!

We do the same thing every year too. Glasto is only an hour and a half away from us (Swindon). We always start off with a a McDonald's breakfast... Naughty but my favourite, then hit the road. The car parking sticker goes on before we leave too, then we wave and beep at any other Glasto drivers we pass, & there's usually loads that seem to come from around Swindon

I want to go NOW!!!

Glastonbury no5 for me this year and it's the first one where I'm not travelling by car. It's not often you miss a 400 odd mile drive but I'm going to really miss the drive down this year  Though it does me I can have my first Sunday night on the booze at Glasto! We normally have a couple of cars going down and it's great laugh all the way. Travelling down the M74 and then the M6 is great but the excitement really starts building once we hit the M5 and signs for Bristol appear. The best part is the A37 though, when you start passing through places like Farrington Gurney and Gurney Slade (awesome names :P ) you know you're almost there again. :P

This year I'm flying to Bristol on the Tuesday with Glitter & Vodka and parTy animal then getting a bus to Taunton where the rest of my friends are going to meet us (they're driving down). Then we'll get a lift with them to the site first thing on the Wedneday morning. 11 weeks today?

The drive is great. We pack the night before for an early Wednesday start. The excitement really starts to build as we turn off the M5.

It's then a bit like kids going to the seaside - shout who sees the sea first - only it's shout who first sees Glastonbury Tor. And then the screams as we get our first glimpse of the site.......
