Make a case for a camp site

In the new found spirit of positivity that has swept through the forum post Water Aid day, we've discovered what makes us all excited - talking about Glastonbury!

To wit - I am thinking of moving where me and the team camp. For the two year I have been going we have camped in the triangle in front of the hedge by where the cinema tent was. It was great - although last year we came in the gate by the Leftfield - quite a walk!

Anyway I read that there was going to be hospitality camping there. Although this no longer looks to be true, but I thought maybe we should look at camping elsewhere.

We get to the fest around 10am on Thursday morning - unavoidable due to work commitments.

So approach the bar and open your arguments with "M'lud" - court is now in session!

we camped in Kidney Mead for the first time last year and I really liked it. Easy to find your tent when you're a bit *confused*, good in the morning to be able to get up and stagger down to the food stalls by way of the Guardian place to pick up a paer. I spent most of my time in the Greenfields/Park end, so it's a bit of a walk, but I like that, cos you're often distracted by something unexpected and good on the way, which to me is what Glastonbury is all about. It seemed to have a really nice atmosphere, and I reckon I'l probably go for the same again this year.

Big Ground ! , think this will be our 7th year !

You overlook the Pyramid Stage/Field and have a great view of the rest of site , including the Stone

Circle and also The Tor.

Best bit tho is on the Weds , we always sit by our tents , and when the light starts to fade and the

site lights up with all the fires etc , it is truly unforgettable

since 95 weve been camping in Park Home Ground

for the following

a - its not quite as mental as pennards

b - we have survived every downpour intact on the hill

c - the hill provides top views also

d - spend a lot of time at the other stage and its an easy walk

e - its close to the greenfields for proper grub and the stone circle for late night sillyness

f - since the park went in its proved to be the perfect arena to start the day

and most probably.........

weve been camping there for so long we all have a built in homing beacon now, i think weve camped within a 20 metre radius for the last however many festys its been

and it feels like home!!

We always camp in Top Webbs Ash/Michael's Mead. the area - As you face the pyramid, to the right slighty behind where the stage is. Just up from the Mandala bar. It's slightly on an angle so the water rushes straight past you and very little mud occurs.

Close to food stalls/cinema/toilets (not too close to get the stink). Nice view of the Tor, and you get a good view of the whole site.

Close to the bus entrance too. But it tends to be full by wednesday evening so may not be the best place for you if you're getting there thursday.

I'm gonna add my name to the newbies on this thread and ask another question I'm afraid, are the fields on the outter section: hinching hill, the 1 behind the park stage etc, the best options if you have people in your groupl whom like their peace and quiet?

And I'm guessing it's a good idea to avoid the pylon line areas like the plague if you're looking for a quiet night as I bet those crackle like mad when it rains?

+1 :)

The views are ace from up there and the toilets aren't too minging or busy

I'm getting butterflies thinking about setting up the tent then settling down, looking at the view with a can of cider as it gets darker, and the "woooo"shout starting to go around the site :P

We found Park/ Dairy ground a hell of a trek to the main areas in 2007 because of the mud so we tried Holts last year, have to get there early and perhaps not as picturesque as many areas but nicely close to the Glade, Other, Jazz and Park and pretty central all round. Not as noisy as we'd expected either despite being really near the glade.

We have what we consider to be the best spot on the site - but so have lots of others from the posts above.

Again, like others, we manage to go back to our regular spot - give or take 20 yards - every year.

It's got breathtaking views yet isn't too noisy, is an easy walk to the Pyramid and most other places, has flush toilets (generally clean) nearby and doesn't get flooded.

I could give lots of other good reasons for camping there but that would give too many clues. And if you all work out where it is there may not be space for us. So....... I'm not telling.

Ok - I've been a few times and I'm confused, so God help the newbies. Could someone who knows how to do it post a map on this thread, so I can work out where exactly you're all talking about?

Thanks

I think I have camped in big ground, spring ground, dairy ground (Paynes field?) and possibly dragons field but i really don't know, and I definitely don't know the places where I haven't camped in any degree of helpful detail.

Love the thread though - it's exciting!
