I agree that AM and KOL are "modern" choices for headliners, but 2002, the supposed mother of all R/L line-ups, was headlined by two bands that broke through not long before the festival, three in the case of Reading. The Strokes who had released their album less than six months before it was announced, and Foos and Prodigy both gained recognition about half a decade before 2002, same with KOL and 2009.

Of course 2009's line-up is piss-weak compared to the colossal line-up that was in 2002, but basically my point is that AM and KOL are good choices for headliners.

so it seems that people do actually like KOL but.......

a. they're not fussed on the new album and the subsequent popularity.

b. they're just a little disappointed that arctic monkeys are also headlining.

c. they are frustrated by the lack of metal/alternative acts.

KOL and AM are liked by (in most cases) similar people.. That says they appeal to the same tastes. By saying these are diverse headliners, we are calling NME diverse.

i can't stand nme.

i really think it is a waste of money and for kids who are into fads and style over substance.

having said that the music that they cover ranges from justice to willy mason to gallows etc.

Gallows are pretty much a one off, there are very few other bands like that who they like.

As for willy mason, all my indie friends like him. The ones who like KOL. Its not the same genre but its still for a similar audience.

My point is, i just feel it should be more diverse. Its going back to the metal argument, but i personally hate AC/DC but i think for them to headline instead of AM or KOL would have improved it by a looong way.

Yeah. AM and KOL are both very much capable of headlining and, as I said earlier, good choices. But the line-up would look stronger if the three headliners were:

FRIDAY: Green Day/AC/DC

SATURDAY: AM/KOL

SUNDAY: Radiohead

A set of headliners as big as last year's.

LOVE kings of leon , they are the main reason i'm going to leeds this year, bar from the prodigy, placebo and a few songs from radiohead. The rest is pretty abysmal tbh, where have the foo fighters escaped too, come backkkkkk to leeds!!!

Have to agree about the first few albums being better than this one, can't enjoy the new album after all this media attention, especially sex on fire and use somebody. When they come on I just have to switch onto the following song on my ipod, stupid media coverage, mainly radio 1's fault!!!

Just find it really sad how they have changed, you could say developed over the past few years, and how the media has changed them, and it seems there just doing albums to get zilliooons rather than actually loving to play, and loving what they're doing.

Still love KOL though, always will ...

I think it's just a case of anything that gets too popular people will slate on these forums, wether its a band, a song or even beer!!!

there's a couple of tracks I've heard which I like. everything else I really don't like. woudn't want to put myself through watching them so hoping for a decent alternative

used to like them in the earlier days when they sounded raw and weren't so popular. If they started writing songs like 'Mollys Chambers' again, I'd probably be interested, but everyone likes them these days because they do average pop songs

KOL are my favourite out of the three headliners. People don't like them because they've got shit, simple as.

youth and young manhood/aha shake heartbreak are, in my opinion, great records. it was just downhill from there.

uhh, it just winds me up when i'm on the train and someones listening to 'use somebody' on tinny headphones sitting next to me. it's usually either KOL or pendulum or dragonforce.

Im a massive KOL fan. Have been from the start, but i have to say that i think they're stuff's getting better. I know a load of people think they've sold out because they're not as raucous and raw anymore. But so what? There's some killer tunes on Only_By_The_Night, BOTT is genius and Trani live is the dogs'.

If it weren't for KOL I wouldn't be going to Leeds, because it's traditionally a more greebo/emo slipknotty festival, which ain't my bag.

It just seems to be forumers that have a problem, if you come round my area then you'd see how excited people are for KOL and Arctics.

Personally, I'm most excited about Radiohead, Arctics, KOL and Prodigy.

In that order.
