naked people at glastonbury?

when i first came in 93 i seem to recall quite a few naked people around. my memory tries to tell me there was a nudism field - can anyone help me with this am i right. Is this another hippy ideal that has died? also ive not seen the guy carrying the cross for years..is he still around or has he bitten the dust too?

i remember in my first year in 2004, we walked up to the stone circle and there was a naked guy, about 50 with big glasses and a funny bowl hair cut...

It wasn't exactly an old man...but I had a drunk girl strip off her bra and shirt to throw on stage for the Kings of Leon right behind me at one of their shows...once she had gotten them onstage and realized she no longer had anything to cover herself, she decided to get directly up against my back so that no one could see/molest her. Fine, whatever, but I didn't know her, and didn't appreciate having to spend the rest of the encore having her bare breasts flopping up and down against my bare back (I was wearing a tank top...so it was flesh on flesh). On second thought, I feel that I should clarify that I am a straight female, as I realize some might have enjoyed that experience. I just found it rude and disgusting...which is coincidentally how I feel about the Kings of Leon themselves.

I remember a few years back there was the protest naked guy (as we used to call him) who used to walk around with a bag full of leaflets covering his modesty. Haven't seen him in a few years though. Used to see the odd naked persom around the tipi field and stone circle and have a vague recollection of there being a nudist field back in 98/99 but unfortunately I never made it there.

Last time I saw lots of naked people was on the Wednesday in 2005 when it was really hot and sunny and everyone was stripping off and skinny dipping in the pond to the left of the stone circle. They've put up a fence by it now to stop people, probably to protect the pond rather than to prevent nudity.

I last went in 1983 - it was camp by your car/bike - anywhere you felt like! That was the year that Peewee got the concession for all beer sales on site and there was an noticeable change that year, all the people trading out of the back of their cars (to help us out with what we needed, and to pay for their ticket) disappeared. It was also the first year the Police were allowed on site (though I have to say Plod were very sensible and open minded about it - there were still little signs giving soft drug prices around) which was a bit weird.

Going back after all these years I'm sure it's going to be a great time, but it will be radically different to what it was then - everyone did their own thing and no one gave a damn. If someone stripped off next to you it was no big deal. I'll also miss the three-legged dog that used to race round the site, it was some of an institution as I recall. The whole thing worked by everyone co-operating - water ran out every day by 9.00am and the fire wood was gone as soon as the truck tipped it - but if you asked about someone would let you have some, or invite you to share theirs. I've seen some comments on threads here that lead me to believe that had those people gone back then they would have hated it - social rules went out of the window - if something offended you, you just didn't look!

My first year was when the totem was carved and erected in the then Tipi field, about the same year as the OP I think There was definately a lot more general nakedness then I think largely due to the larger number of travelling people. Obviously we don't want to get into this again ( ) but for me they really brought something extra to the fest.

The 50 year old mentioned earlier was probably the comedian, annoyingly can't remeber his name now (someone put me out of my misery) but he performed at the festival every year and loved to wonder around with his kit off. Very funny and sadly no longer with us.

Beamends, you'll see a huge difference to the fest, some good some not so good but still the best out there for me. Hope you have a great return trip, sure you will .

in 2003 i saw a naked lady get carried away by the security down near the other stage....she was enertaining herself with her magic fingers!! scared me a little. she didnt stop even with 4 security guys around her, mid air finger session was something i wish but sadly will never forget!!
