John Peel Tent - Terrible Sound

I think someone mentioned this in the Doves thread too...

Did anyone notice how bad the sound in the tent was last year. Several sets were ruined by it just being too quiet and 'hollow.' The Cribs, British Sea Power and MGMT.

It seems they only turned it up for the hugely popular bands, when the tent was overspilling (like for Glasvegas).

It was really annoying because i spend a lot of my weekend there.

Tip: If a band playing the JP is playing more than once on the weekend, see them at a different stage. MGMT on the park were apparently incredible.

Perhaps I'm an old man, but it's been a very long time since I have been in the position to complain that the sound at any gig is too quiet!!!

Now what might be an issue at JP is that the levels are not in proportion. I noticed last year with the Reverend and the Makers set, and maybe some of Emmy the Great that the vocals were being drowned out by the band.. So not that the overall sound was wrong, but the vocals needed to be upped a bit to compete.

Back to being an old man.. don't encourage people to turn the damn music up any more.. just to get it balanced (goes off to find his ear-plugs again!)

Yeah I was the person in the Doves thread who mentioned the sound at The Cribs. I was right at the front, and all I could hear was the sound actually coming out of the monitors on the stage. Sound was a real pile of shit. Spiritualized I was in front of the right PA and it was fine. I hope they get it much better this year as I can't do with Doves being shit!

I was astonished in general at how good the sound was. The Park sounded brilliant - far better than most indoor gigs I've been to. I only saw a couple of acts at the John Peel. The Black Lips sounded shite (but then everything about them was shite) but the Futureheads sounded fine. A bit distorted and not as clear as other stages but still ok.

I think the entire stage is a joke, it's way to small for the bands that are playing, it needs to be the size of the other stage i think :)

Every time i'v been there it's been rammed, we don't go to that stage anymore just becouse of the fact you can't see anything becouse it's inside the tent and your outside B)

I remember my first Glasto in 2003 when it was the New Bands tent.

It was a smaller tent and the sounds was excellent.

I guess new indie music becoming fashionable meant the tent had to change.

It feels like standing in the back of a huge rammed tent chatting throughout the entire set of some new band someone had told you about is a badge of honour for some of the morons who turn up - so you can back and tell all your mates about it. Depressing.
