Guest
Just thinking about it and reading are surely gonna have a pretty heavy sunday (atleast) next year. What leads me to this conclusion? Well i shall explain my reasoning to you. Whoever plays Download wont play it again so will play reading/Sonisphere Whoever plays Sonisphere wont play it again so will play reading/download Considering Sonisphere only has like 20 bands in the 2 days or whatever you'd imagine they'd get about 6 from this years download. Now to compile my list of tips for next years reading! Korn Limp Bizkit Killswitch Engage Down Staind Dream Theatre Five Finger Death Punch Slipknot Avenged Sevenfold Machinehead Lamb of God Anthrax Alice in Chains Make you a bit happier? inspectedinspector
I think the majority of those will just get taken up by the other festival they're not playing this year with one or two exceptions maybe...

Spiky Mike
I think the existence now of 2 major rock/metal festivals means we may never see Reading/Leeds having much rock/metal again. Big shame, but there are only so many bands to go around.

beLIEveR
Lithium, given the lukewarm response to the first one, I can't see a 2-day Sonisphere continuing. If they had charged something like £200 for a three day one, they might ironically have had a bit more joy. Agree with Kaosmark, as much as I don't want to see an annual cycle of the same bands doing Download then Reading then Sonisphere then Download, it's already happening with other festivals (especially Reading and V). kaosmark2
Didnt they reckon that Metallica had signed a 3 year contract or something? Totally agree with what you're saying though. Reading for £180 has what 5? Stages which means you can pretty much find something you'll like at pretty much any time. Sonisphere however if you dont like the band it looks like you'll be sat to twiddle you're thumbs until the next act. For me thats wrong and the main reason id not go just doesnt seem worth the money when id probably only get about £130 worth in bands i wana see. Think they've missed out with the 2 stage format. Lithium05
Whilst I agree Sonisphere's line-up is impressive collectively, individually there arent many bands that haven't been around for a while. Off the top of my head: Metallica: Arena tour in March and Reading/Leeds 2008 Linkin Park: MK Bowl show in 08 and Download 07 NIN: Reading/Leeds 2007 Alice in Chains - Download 2006 Machine Head - support slots for huge Metallica/Slipknot tours in 08/09 Airbourne - Download 2008 Feeder - Reading/Leeds 2008 Skindred - Download 2008 A7X - Download 2006 I think it's only Anthrax, Thin Lizzy and Killing Joke that you have to go back further than 3 years for and Anthrax were only at Download 4 years ago. I think the point I'm making is that while it's impressive, there's no huge returning heroes on the level of RATM or FNM representing a major draw for the fest after an extended absence, thugiving people extra incentive to splash out silly money on a 2 day festival... thinking about it, alot of the same criticisms can be pointed at this years R/L line-up... Edit: Oh and I agree with the above post about the lack of options away from the mainstage last year but would add that as well as MSP we also had Flogging Molly and Goldfinger... but that was pretty much it! joshwarrr
i think/hope slipknot will play next year. I imagine they were well on the way to booknig download this year when the pulled out of Reading/Leeds meaning that they couldn't play this year. However next year it would make sense to see them on the line-up.

solusoracle
Killing Joke were at Download 2006. It was Saturday night: Metallica/Korn Vs. Alter Bridge/Opeth Vs. Killing Joke/Reuben Thats impressive, but so so painful to choose. At the time I went Opeth > Metallica now I'd go Reuben>Killing Joke probably I think Thin Lizzy were on a tour not long ago with Styx and Deep Purple maybe...?
