some sort of infectious disease should cut it, and gain you both sympathy as well as a few extra days off. say on the thursday before that you have contracted chicken pox (that gives you days to build yourself up, plus the tutor will never expect youre going to glastonbury cos most people wont have sussed its on the week after), it also should give you a little bit of recovery time for when you get back, returning to college say wednesday or thursday the week after, refreshed and raring to go ! jobs a good un

your tutor isnt an idiot (or is he) he will know you and many other people in your year are taking 4 days at the same time in june...

just dont say anything, i did that last year. i got a phone call from my tutor literally the moment i got home asking if i was dropping a subject, i just said no i've been at glastonbury, her reply was "oh you must be hanging, i'll let you get some sleep"

family event. big surprise party for aunt's birthday. cousins flying in from canada etc. you've tried to get out of it but your mum is putting the family guilt trip on you.

edit: your aunt lives in cornwall/inverness/somewhere nowhere near you and it's her 60th.

Well I live in Glastonbury, so if you turned up that week or the week after you were seen as weird.

Since you live in London, your tutor may not cotton on that its Glastonbury you are missing it for. I would suggest you go in on Tuesday but then pretend to be ill and go home half way through the day then say you are ill for the rest of the week.

That's if you REALLY need an excuse, I think you should just not go. Don't worry about it. Your tutor will probably remember all the wild times they had at festivals when they were young and will let you off when they finally find out.

My course is done on hours and is really difficult to make time up.Any absence must be back by a valid reason, not sure if calling in sick would go down to well.To make matters worse I'm on placement glasto week so that's two people I have to clear this with.

Last year I was in my first year of sixth form - my parents just wrote a letter saying that I wasn't going to be in college for thurs, fri +mon as I was away with my dad - no reason why - and I gave it to my form tutor and ran away before he could read it. With that and a uni open day on the wed I basically missed a whole week of college. He didn't say anything when I came back - just told me what work I'd missed in his classes, but no different to if you'd been off ill. Other teachers said nothing. I just tried to not draw too much attention to myself with regards to it - but my friends didn't really help asking loadly how it was in front of all of them...

There's not a lot they can do - I'm guessing college = sixth form = you don't have to be there so they can't do you for truancy and I'd doubt they'll throw you out for missing a few days of college in the downtime after exams. I've always had a really good rep with my teachers so that probs helped with them not caring - so try not to piss them off too much before

I took my two boys out of school/college so that they could come with me last year. I only asked for the Fri/Mon off though. I do think that honesty is the best policy though, and wrote to school telling them exactly what the time off was for. This meant that the boys could freely talk about and get excited about going without having to cover it up. Can you really get through the build up without mentioning it at all? That would be the worse bit about falling ill suddenly.

I take it this isn't 6th form college, sounds way too strict?

My conversation with my tutor on the Tuesday after year went something like this:

Tutor: "You seem to have a few absences last week"

Me: "Um... I was ill..."

"Nice wristband. So how was 'being ill' then?"

"BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE!"

"I'm glad you had fun"

And then she ticked it off as a medical absence. But then I do have a very nice tutor. So many people at my college go that it's basically taken as a week off, a lot of people don't bother going in even if they're not at the festival.

'depends how much you care...

good medical reason is that you've picked up something horrible like campylobacter; i've had it and in terms of food poisoning, it rocks and would indeed put you out of the game for 4 days or more.

I'd be inclined to tell him i was off to Glasto and to go shove it if he didn't like it.

Your studies sound important to you but not enough to stop you from going. You'll have a lifetime of this so start as you mean to go on.

I spoke to one of my teachers about this, and seen as though its after AS exams they will be a lot more lenient. Also if you have a good attendance already, and are reaching your target grades they will take this into account. And also there's nothing much they can do anyway really, its only for a few days and if your worried just phone in ill!
