It doesn't get any better
Only 2 months to go and I can hardly wait! Brilliant news about Kasabian - I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic weekend As a first timer, I have been trying to work out from the forums which camsite is best for me and a mate. There are so many contradicting views - it is such a personal choice. So I have put down my criteria below in order of importance and I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of the best site. We will be arriving about 2am on Thursday morning so there should still be a fair amount of space left. Our criteria are: 1. Pretty flat - I can't be sleeping on a steep hill 2. Pretty quiet - Obviously it's a festival so it's not going to be like a library. I was in the Red Zone at T in the Park last year and it was just mental. We plan to have it large at Glasto this year but it would be nice to get away from the madness for a bit each day 3. It's hard to know which stages we'd like to be near yet as there is so much yet to be announced. If the Other Stage is more indie focussed as I gather then we'll probably spend a bit of time there, and will want to spend some time in the dance village and the stone circle 4. A long way from the campervans (don't ask why!) 5. No too distant from the car (not really that important) We don't mind a bit of a walk back to the site - it gives us a chance to unwind at the end of a mad day From what I can gather, Paines Ground, Pennard Hill, Park Home or Dairy Ground seem most well suited. Can't make my mind up about Pennards as some people say it's quite quiet whereas others say it's party central So, come on you Glasto-veterans - where should I pitch my tent? jameshunt
I think James Hunt is trying to show me that famous Glastonbury welcome. Or maybe his name is just rhyming slang?
It doesn't get any better
I think you're right about the sense of humour - too much work and not enough lounging around in a field I know - I'll go to Glasto! If only I knew where to camp?

scaryclaireyfairy
it's glastonbury. you'd be crazy to try to camp on totally flat ground - just in case. obviously it's not going to **** this year, but, you know, better safe than sorry. DaveMac
Alright mate I usually camp in the Wicket Ground which certainly satisfies most of your criteria - despite being a hill is IS pretty flat towards the bottom; if you look at the glasto map you'll see it's towards the North West of the site and pretty well distanced from all the madness and noise of the sacred space; it couldnt be further from those pesky campervans!, and; it's 2 minutes walk from the nearest gate, which is really as close as you're going to get to your car. the only downsides are that it's a bit of a trek to any stages bar the John Peel tent, and though it used to be slap bang right beside the outdoor cinema (a major bonus) that's now moved to the other side of the site. Also despite the Wicket Ground being good for peace and quiet it's a fair walk from the more exciting late night/early morning areas of Glasto, and when your head is in THAT sort of state the last thing you want is a long walk home if I were you I'd avoid Pennards. It's always f**king jumping. I reckon Dairy Ground is your best bet mate, that's where I plan to park myself and the burd this year - close enough to the stages and mentalness to be able to enjoy it post haste, far enough to avoid any real f**king weirdo's shiteing in your tent (not guaranteed) good luck
It doesn't get any better
Thanks for your suggestions, really helpful - looks like Dairy Ground is the front runner Is it easy to to make sure you end up in the car parks on the west side when you arrive? Only 62 days - but it can't come soon enough!

tarff26
I too have the same sort of camping requirements as you (but not quite the same dislike of campervans!) so I may see you in Dairy Ground! I understand if you come in via the red route you are sent to west car parks. And the blue route takes you to East Car Parks. CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS PLEASE? Ladybug-nina
We can at Pennards but I just wanted to add that you shouldnt assume that there will be loads of space left on Thursday afternoon as most people came on Wednesday last year and it was heaving by lunch time Thursday. What ever camp you choose I am sure you will have the best time ever!
Pauljoanss
We camped in Paines ground in 2007, mainly because we arrived late (Thurs evening) and only place with space. It was good, fairly quite, space still just about available even on Sat, weather was very very wet but no flooding problems. But a long way from east car parks (where we were forced to park). Note in our experiece you have no options on parking, we came in from west and were diverted around to east car parks with no choice. Couple of important tips. Only plan for one trip from car, 1 trip = 2 miles (in our case), 2 trips = 6 miles. The most important locations to avoid are near/down wind of toilets. Its obvious but sometimes in the excitement of arriving and finding space it can be forgotton.
It doesn't get any better
Crikey - it's miles from the car parks in the East to Paines ground Let's hope the west car parks are open on Thursday night!
TaylorT
I have a question that could come into this. Its actually a question that needs to be answered by someone thats been going for many many years as they are bound to know the best answers. What is the script with all the different camping areas?? I know that the family field is defo for familys etc etc (its where was last year) but if each camp bit was to be broken down into what they are actually like it would be amazing to know. If i try to list them all below and someone clued up on Glasto BIG time answers i would be most greatfull . I know the Glasto earth has descriptions for each camp but a quick list in here would be alot easier for myself and many others to have a quick gander at. As last year was my first year i did not realise certain camps were madder ie the Pennards which is where i want to be this year Camps Pennards Park Dairy Dragon Field Wicket Hitchin Hill Paines Lime Big Ground Kidney Mead Home Ground Cockmill Meadow - FAMILY(quiet, very calm and relaxed and mostly familys of course) Woodsies Lower Mead Dance Field If ive missed any of the main camp bits please add them in and any info will be greatly appreciated Edited April 24, 2009 by TaylorT

jameshunt
... Camps Pennards - Excellent, as long as you like flags Park - Great place to leave the car Dairy - Not for the lactose intolerant Dragon Field - Beware, there may be dragons! Wicket - Don't forget your pads and stay awake in the outfield Hitchin Hill - You might wake up somewhere else Paines - Ideal for those with a bad back Lime - Very green Big Ground - Perfect for the obese Kidney Mead - Not for vegetarians Home Ground - There's no place like it Cockmill Meadow - Ooh err, missus! Woodsies - Can't see it for the trees Lower Mead - Take the high ground instead Dance Field - Not recommended for those with a pacemaker If ive missed any of the main camp bits please add them in and any info will be greatly appreciated

FunkyDenz
I camped in Woodsies last year, and found it very convenient for the exit, so could get a pass-out and use the cleaner toilets just outside the gate, with no queue, very useful in the mornings. It was also quiet, although there was some residual noise from the cinema field. As the outdoor cinema isn't there this year, it will be even quieter. On a downside, it is a long way from Trash City and the Stone Circle, which are normally the last stop of the night, but the trek back to the campsite helped to sober me up enough to actually find my tent.
