Pendulum - Good or Bad...?

Yeah I know there are 2 other popular Pendulum threads but this one is a bit different.

I have heard things about this band in the past and have seen MANY people on here thrilled that they might be playing. I have also seen MANY people on here gutted they might be playing.

Now this seems (to me) to go beyond being impartial. It seems that although some love this group - others seems to hate them with a venom?

Anyway, as I have never heard anything by this band and want to know what the fuss is all about - this thread is your opportunity to praise them or absolutely slate them.

I really want to know your honest thoughts about this band.

I will give them a listen myself soon but firstly would be very interested to know why you love them - or hate them as there does seem a vast divide on this.

Cheers.

I'm 22 and I love them.

They are insanely good live, and I'm tired of people bad mouthing them post In Silico. Strange how they get such a negative response but when they play Propane Nightmares or Other Side or Granite, everyone in the crowd always goes f*ckin mental. I think there's a lot of two faced people around...

Plus "all their songs sound the same" is the worst way to criticise a band. You hear people say it ALL THE DAMN TIME. But it's basically just a way of saying "I've got bored of them" or "it's not my kind of music" because at the end of the day ALL music sounds a bit the same. And half the people on here are even complaining that they changed their style, so how exactly did they change their style AND always sound the same. WTF?

But you telling me to wash my ears just reiterates my original point. To the outside observer, anything which has been grouped together (in this case into the category "music") could be observed to be the same. Hence, with Pendulum, you could say all their music sounds the same. But can you really listen to Granite and tell me it ACTUALLY sounds the same as The Other Side? The differences between songs on their albums are exactly comparable with any other band...

I mean didn't all of Beethoven's compositions sound vaguely similar if you're not a massive follower of his work? That doesn't mean they literally sound the same... And it's just an excuse that's often used when someone isn't THAT into a band. I.E. I hate Prodigy because all their music sounds the same.

It's just nu-metal (remember that genre *shudders*) that is influenced by drum and bass not hiphop, i can't believe so many people have got sucked into liking them. The synths are cheesy as hell (much like the new prodigy album).

I guess i look it from the the pespective of been a drum and bass head for years though, i think people who aren't into their dnb or not heard much before will proberbly see pendulum in a completly different way to those who have. Maybe thats why i don't get the whole pendulum thing.

but thinking about it, I'm frequently baffled when dance acts decide they want to start using guitars and that. For me, it very rarely works, it's kind of the equivalent of guitar bands thinking they want a dance remix, just kind of, because. So you end up with all these fey indie bands remixed with a backbeat and chucking a suitcase of cash at a name remixer to put some squelches over the top.

I'm probably the only person on these boards that prefers the first two Prodigy albums to any of their other stuff, for me, they peaked with 'Voodoo People' ;):P

Basically they sold out. They're from Oz which doesn't have much of a scene so they attached themselves to the dNb scene (very well) and made a name for themselves.

Once famous, they switched and started rawking out, playing places like Donnington etc. If you're not familiar with their baggage, I'm sure you'll enjoy them. I saw them at Bestival last year when drunk and found it very easy to jump up (and down) to. And they did play a lot from the first album.

Think you have misread what he was saying. He is on about their actual live performances, HYC=drum'nbass(which isn't often done live, so it made them special)and now In Silico when played live makes them a 2nd class Soulwax or Prodigy. Still good, just nothing special anymore.
