this is why I love this forum! ;)

Im not gonna repeat what everyone else has said as by now you seem a bit happier about coming on your own now, other than not just the wed, maybe come to glasto town on tuesday for the tues night meet at the riflemans, also while you're around on the wed afternoon, come and support the glasto world cup :)

You'll have an ace time I guarantee it.

I went on my own last year and had no qualms about it this year as had my best glasto so far.

Discoduck - welcome to the forum, and thanks for this thread - it's made me feel all warm and happy inside! As lots and lots of people have said, there will be loads of people who are drinking, taking drugs or both, but by no means everyone will be. Of the people I go with, none of us do drugs at all, one doesn't drink any alcohol and one might only have a couple of beers over the weekend, while I'll be drinking pretty much constantly from Wednesday breakfast time, but we all have a great time, so please don't think that a sober festival is in any way inferior to a chemically enhanced one - Glastonbury is THE most beautiful place on earth, and everyone experiences it in a different way.

Re: not having camped before, I can understand your worries, as five days at a festival is a hard slog. Do you have time to try out your tent before the festival - even if it's just putting it up and down a couple of times, or even sleeping out in the garden overnight to see how you cope with the cold etc.

I really hope you have an amazing festival!

Haven't read the whole thred, so might already have been mentioned. There are threads around for people going on there own who join up as groups. You could always park your tent with them, then join in or go your own way whichever you fancy :O

I waited 49 years before I actually got a chance to go with somebody. Wish I'd gone many years before now. You're going to love it I'm certain :)

You'll find some similar peop's here also

1. Again no better place to start - but in all seriousness such a friendly atmospher people camping in the vacinity normally invite you over you wont need the drink or drugs.

2. You'll love GBury no matter what

3. Difficult....lol Bring warm clothes for night and make sure you train at taking them off ready for the morning desert tent feeling.

4. See Number 1!

Unlike most posters on this thread I was one of those who did not want to go last year and was coerced in to it by my daughter and wife.

Take the warm fuzzy feeling from this thread and multiply by a million and you may get close to the sense of what the Glasto feeling is. You will have the best five days of your life and wonder why on earth you did not do it sooner. (I would also recommend to your friend that if there is anyway she can scrape the money together - and if she has not already cancelled her ticket - then Glasto is the best antidote to the blues. Either way I hope she finds work again soon).

My hints and tips (even though after only one I am still a newbie) - Kids fields are not too strict if you say you are meeting friends with kids although there are plenty of other quieter areas - we were in Michael's mead last year and it was great. Earplugs are cool - wax ones not foam ones. Travel light and leave spare stuff in the car. Read the questions page on here and get tips on boots, etc. Also if you fancy a lift share then there is also a page on here that can help. You have the enviable benefit of not needing tips on hangover cures or sage advice on not taking too many substances so all that is left is to say - roll on June!

:)

Hi Discoduck, don't panic im giong on my own to, i'm thinking the efestival camping together thingy to be the best solution, for us both as im sure there will be many more singlies there too.

I'll be the one walking around with a massive camo Bergan (backpack to you civis) on trying to find the efestival place to camp, will be knocking at the gates as early as poss, will be in castle cary for just after 0700hrs ready for the 5 days ahead. Im a bit of a camping Guru so if you need any help putting your tent up give me a shout. I'll gladly assist

0. It's good to do things you're scared of once in a while.

1. I'd go so far as to say a very small minority of Glasto-goers drink heavily at the festival, likewise drugs.

2. Glastonbury is a good first festival - well organised, varied. The only problem is that after that, smaller festivals seem a bit, well, small.

3. It's not really camping as such - I mean it's not like you have to cook on a camp stove. Just concentrate on being dry and warm. The site can supply all your other needs.

4. Neither am I. Let your needs guide you. If you're happy soaking in the atmosphere alone, do it. If you feel the need for conversation, you'll be forced to strike one up
