No more surprises for this year. What then, do we think of the 2009 line up?

    • A few decent acts aside, a VERY poor line up.

I was disappointed with the initial announcement, but held out a lot of hope for the next wave.

Now that we pretty much know what we're getting this August, what do we all think?

I think that there ARE a few great acts, but not many.

There are way too many bands coming back too soon, and several that appear to play every feckin year.

Couple that with some very odd placings on the line up (Razorlight 2nd from top?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!) and you have a rather underwhelming year IMO.

Then again, it has already sold out, so where they ever really going to impress with the second wave?

agree not great but no sooo bad as they are a few decent acts in there but remember there is still loads of slots to fill and the bacardi/strongbow tent so we still have surprises to come yet

2 x main stage

6 x ch4 stage

half the acts for arena and union stage

all acts for sessions

Bacardi and strongbow tent

I also don't think that all placings are final as you say some are quite odd at the moment....

Oh I love it when people on here slag of the lineup.

OK who are they to get instead????

Oasis biggest band around

Snow Patrol massive

Killers massive

Razorlight massive

Thas all 4 major headliner boxes ticked

under card

Lilly Alan biggest female singer at minute???

Lady GaGa massive Diva

Elbow great festival band

Keane one for the ladies

Specials a one chance deal

The Enemy getting pretty huge

Ting Tings good festival fodder

then up & coming stuff like

Taylor Swift

Saturdays

Will Young

Redlight Company

Noisettes

Then some oldies but goodies

OCS

Starsailor

Athlete

Fat Boy Slim

Human League

Happy Mondays

Its beginning to look like a classic V year, remember they pulled of the impossible by getting Radiohead there in recent years & bands like the Oasis & The Killers do not come cheap.

So will someone please tell me who they would rather have there, instead of being so unimaginative to say shit line up.

Additions I would like to see

Simple Minds

Doves

Lady Sovereign

Grace Jones

Ash

Feeder

Kasabian but I think they will headline next year myself, after they announce major stadium tour

i thought 07 was a great line up, i thought last year was good-prodigy saved it for me.

this years is OK, may be worse than expected, maybe a lot better. I think this year got a fair few really enjoyable acts like the streets, dizzee, pendulum, 2 manyDJ's, the saturdays(hopefully this years sugababes), MGMT, fatboy slim could be as well and others.

friday night in the arena is always good as well.

first time at V and surprised by some of the choices (Will Young, Lemar, Natalie Umbrella), but still think there's enough quality and quirkiness to make it a blindin' weekend. Besides, I hear that V has the friendliest crowd around so, a good time to be had even when the music stops!

Classic year my Arse.

Oasis were the biggest band around. 10 years ago.

Snow Patrol and The Killers played in 2007.

And Razorlight are utter shit. (have you heard their new album?)

I concede that there are some decent mid-league bands playing, but that's about it.

(Your idea that Lilly Allen is "the biggest female singer" is hysterical in every sense of the word... :P )

As for who I'd add:

Blur

Coldplay

Green Day

Franz Ferdinand

Depeche Mode

Beastie Boys

The Cribs

De La Soul

Flamin Lips

Basement Jaxx

Nick Cave

Doves

Ash

Feeder

Kasabian

Fleet Foxes

Glasvegas

Embrace

Faithless

Primal Scream

Guillemotts

Jarvis Cocker

The Strokes

Travis

The Pixies

RHCP

Foo Fighters

Groove Armada

Daft Punk

Super Furry Animals

Manic Street Preachers.

5 or 6 of those please.

(ps. If Will Young is "up & coming" when will he feckin stop?)

Blur Playing Glasto

Coldplay World tour at moment

Green Day Just anounced world tour maybe next year

Franz Ferdinand Glasto

Depeche Mode On world tour

Beastie Boys How???

The Cribs not currently touring an album

De La Soul not touring an album

Flamin Lips not touring an album

Basement Jaxx not touring album

Nick Cave

Doves

Ash

Feeder

Kasabian

Fleet Foxes

Glasvegas Leeds

Embrace not touring an album

Faithless not touring an album

Primal Scream not touring an album I could go on

Guillemotts

Jarvis Cocker

The Strokes

Travis

The Pixies

RHCP

Foo Fighters

Groove Armada

Daft Punk

Super Furry Animals

Manic Street Preachers.

5 or 6 of those please.

(ps. If Will Young is "up & coming" when will he feckin stop?) in wrong category my mistake, but he was pretty good at Glasto last year, remember not everyone has teh same taste in music as you, thats what makes festivals so much fun.

I think its a big change from last year. Almost more dance orientated this year, pendulum, Fatboy Slim, Ting Tings, 2manydjs, the steets, dizzee etc...

TBH the only one I would watch is Penulum. (IF I CAN GET A TICKET STILL CANT BELEIVE MY OFFICE HAD A POWER CUT WHEN I WAS ON TICKETMASTER <_< )

But everyone who has a ticket will have a quality weekend/day.

Would have liked kasabian & Blur in with the confirmed then i'm sure everyone say its a fantastic line up.

DONT FORGET, ANY SPARE TICKETS OR WANT TO SELL YOURS, LET ME KNOW

TA.

Ah so you are confusing facts with what you think are my musical taste & facts????

Lily Allen Number 1 album & singles this year, thats pretty big

Oasis have sold 1.7 million copies of their latest album & are this years biggest stadium act currently touring

Taylor Swift is currently this years highest selling album with 800,000 copies sold

As for some of the bands on your list, most are not currently touring an album, you will notice most bands will only play festivals with an album or they are offered tons of cash to play ala radiohead at V

If you where to put together a festival the first thing you need to do is find out which bands are touring & who has been signed up by Leeds / Reading then you get to pick the crumbs out of what is left, so on that basis I would say the line up is pretty good.

Actually, if I was putting on a festival, the FIRST thing I would do is ring you and ask what you think.

Not only do you argue your point rather well, but you're also remarkably well informed.

Thanks for the Taylor Swift update btw. I had absolutely no idea how many albums she'd sold.

In the United States.

(Perhaps Celine Dion is lined up for the next announcement; she sells loads. How great would that be!! :) )

Thanks too, for highlighting which bands are currently touring or playing other festivals.

It's such a shame that they're not allowed to play any other gigs. For money. On nights they are available.

I'm gutted as well, that De La Soul aren't touring a new album.

The 20th Anniversary Special Edition of Three Feet High and Rising is probably crap anyway.

And it's not like they are playing in London next month or anything....

Yes indeedy.

With your wise guidance, we could have the perfect festival.

Any views on how great the bars are?

(enjoy Will Young btw :) )
