Best and worst experiences

she had keytones, which i think was toxin because her diabetes went out of control. i dont really know all that much about it. the sypmtoms were sort of like a virus really. lots of throwing up etc. seeing her hooked up to all sorts of drips was heart breaking, leaving her was even worse. her dad was on his way and the hospital was making my skin crawl....kids crying, moniters bleeping and your girlfriend hooked up to drips isnt fun, especially when coming down! it was a really surreal experience. i got back to the site around 1pm on saturday through various buses. my girfriend missed most of the friday night as she was in the on site medical tents and all of the saturday and saturday night. but managed to make it back for the sunday.

hopefully we'll be luckier this year :D

Tell your girlfriend to get one of these blood test monitors FREESTYLE LITE

It's what I use (I've been type 1 diabetic for 10 years now) and it's brilliant, really portable and no fuss. The only reason you get ketones is if you don't test often enough, especially at a festival when your normal routines are out of whack.

I've used it everywhere, scrunched up against tents, in a field, in a car, in the dark (it's got lights) - no excuses this year, tell her!

Sorry you had such a bad time last year, hope this year is GREAT!

Two worsts:

1) 2004, Sunday morning, tiredness and sunstroke cause me to succumb to a stomach bug and I'm sick in a bin while strangers applaud. I spend the rest of the day in my tent fighting stomach cramps, and MISSING MORRISSEY.

2) 2007, struggling through the claggy mud on Sunday evening, in the same torrential rain that closed several stages, my PMA abandoned me and I thought "this just isn't fun any more". That was a serious problem: I abandoned Glastonbury in 2008 and tried out Bestival (which was a mudbath!). I'm back this year though.

Best:

I just like the general vibe, so it's hard to pick out a best moment.

I do remember my jaw dropping when I realised Cornelius's music was played without sequencers...

The good moments outweigh the bad in so many ways.

I think my worst Glasto moment was getting home on the Monday in 2003 (which was a lovely year apart from a spot of rain on the Friday) and realising that despite wearing suncream all weekend I was so sunburned that it was too painful for me to actually have a shower...

I've had that - you think it's a nice temperature and then your poor burned skin hits the water and it's "OOOOUUUUCCHHHHH!!!" and you jump out slipping over in the process, which hurts even more.

Well, that's what I did anyway.

Suncream is a must but you gotta reapply it really often, esp if you're sweating and in crowds and stuff. Except that P20 stuff which is supposed to stay on all day, designed for the Danish army or something.

Worse - In 2004 had opposite of pooing my pants. Constipated to buggery. By Sunday I'd developed the most heinous bum grapes imaginable. Sitting cooped up in the back of a Mini Metro on the way home on Sunday was a nightmare. When I told my mates exactly why I was shifting around so uncomfortably they pissed themselves laughing all the way home! Sympathy eh?

Also out of nowhere pulled a major whitey in the Silent Disco in 2007. My mates tried to prop me up but were too wasted so we just sat there for several hours. Was ace once I'd come around though!

Best - Loads and loads. Doves headlining the Other Stage in 2003(?). Several bags of MDMA saw to that! Plus, that same year just lying on the grass inside the Spoken Word tent with a mate just nicely stoned listening to the rubbish poetry until we both drifted off to sleep for an hour or so.
