Arctic Monkey's were a snorefest in 2006, since then they've just got more mediocre songs and I'd assume even more annoying chavvy fans. Serious was put off of them by their crowd in 06 more then anything.

I love Rise Against's new album so I'll be in the lock up, Thursday and then Rise Against is just awesomeness in a tent. Add Prodigy and Rival Schools as the build up and it's the best day of the fest thus far for me :D.

Do people realise that the Arctics have tracked around 5 or 6 tracks with Josh Homme in his Palm Springs studio? Yes, that Josh Homme who has played in some of the heaviest bands of all time? Yes, I'm talking heavy from a technical perspective of gain and broken fuzz effects, not bloody Kerrang McMetal.

Just a thought. You may not of liked their first two efforts, but judging from interviews I've read it sounds like their ready to take their sound that step further, and far from a 'snore fest'.

I don't have a clue to be honest. I really want to see the Arctics but I also really have a hankering to relive my teenage years in a Thursday/Rise Against double header. I'll see where my mates go I guess.

1. Headlining mainstage and several festivals around europe

2. One of the biggest selling debut albums of all time

3. Played to the biggest crowd on the carling stage of all time.

4. Write catchy songs with witty intelligent lyrics that people who like music from pop to metal enjoy.

5. A frontman who is capable of writing songs in different styles ala Last Shadow Puppets

End of

Firstly, you've taken something I've said completely out of the context of the topic to try and make me look hypocritical (which I'm not) and in the process have made yourself look stupid. :D

Secondly I would be glad to say why I think arctic Monkeys are better than Rise Against.

Rise against are not a bad band, they are just bland. They are not pioneers, they are followers. Their discernable influences all come from the hardcore/punk/metal scene and therefore their sound will never develop and expand (unlike Arctic Monkeys whose influences range from funk, Hip Hop, Dance, Punk, Psych, Pop, Rock and Indie). Rise against have yet to have seriously dent the mainstream or make an impact outside of their genre which I believe all gret bands should do to a certain extent (I'm not talking about selling out).

Lyricly Alex Turner is brilliant as a quick look at any number of his lyrics would prove, he is witty, postmodern, self referential, observational, emotional etc. His lyrics have been praised froma wide range of established sources including Punk Poet John Cooper Clarke, Morrissey, The Guardian etc. Unlike Rise against whose lyrics are childish, predictable and generic - alright to sing along to but hardly great stuff.

Arctic Monkeys have seriously evolved thier sound over their 2 albums and their third album will continue this trend if the live previews are anything to go by. Most importantly Arctic Monkeys are great fun to watch, exciting live and make briliant songs. As I say there will be another houndred rise Against's but Arctic Monkeys will be rememberd for years to come.

Just look at a number of topics further down on here about Arctic Monkeys to see more reasons why I (and a lot of other people) think they are great.

I think alot of that criticism is harsh on Rise Against - and applies to their earlier albums. While they started of a generic type punk act up, Suffer & The Witness was the beginning of them developing their own sound and Appeal to Reason feels like a far more accomplished and mature album then anything they've put out.

Again I'd say lyrically Rise Against has come very far in recently years, compare the stuff like Give it All and Swing Life Away (Really poor, childish lyrics) to some of their new albums stuff like Hero of War and Savior and you'll see much more matury.

Both AM's and Rise Against were pretty boring live when I saw them at Reading in previous years. Since I saw Rise against though they've had 2 much better albums released and now they're headlining the stage... we'll see how it goes.

This is all a futile argument as most people who see Rise Against will despise the British indie music and visa versa. Seems an odd comparison :/.

Pretty annoyed about this. Always suspected RA would headline lock-up, but always hoped it wouldnt happen. For me though, if there are no other good headliners announced, it will have to be Rise Against. Would prefer Deathcab for cutie on the fr though :D
