meeting outside

hello,

if i was drving up from Southampton, and my mate driving from High Wycombe, where would be the best place to meet so we could follow each other into the festival? my friend suggested meeting quite close, but i've got a feeling that may well be impossible.

i've had a quick look at google maps and had thought Wylye at the A36/A303 junction. Anyone got any better suggestions?

Cheers

Rob

You're on the right side for both of you (Blue Route). I presume that from Wycombe they'll do A40 then come down the A34 and pick up the A303, and you'll either do A36 through Salisbury or loop back around the M3/A34 (possibly quicker if Salisbury is busy and you're a quick driver!). Lots of service stations on the A303, so you should have no problems with choice. If you come M3/A34 would suggest the new big one at Amesbury ("Solstice Services"), just before you get to Stonehenge, as it's hard to miss.

If you come A36 instead there are still several west of there before you get to the A37. In fact, there is one at the roundabout junction of the A303 and the A37 (where you turn off the A303 to go up the A37 for the last bit). I think it's called "Podimore" services so that makes a good target. It's left off the roundabout (where you'd normally turn right to the A37). I'm planning to do the same as I'm meeting someone driving down from London and I'm driving up from Devon, so that junction is perfect.

(PS: there is no where to stop/wait easily at the A36/A303 junction. First services after there westbound is the Garage/Little Chef just past Chicklade (note: the one on the westbound side is a mile or so further on than the one on the eastbound side).

I think you would be crazy to meet at a service station, as the police have a nasty habit of searching people at service stations that are on route to Glastonbury, you don't need that aggro, whether you and taking stuff in or not.

I would find a Tesco en-route and meet there, always pick up some last minute supplies whilst there.

It's good that you're thinking this way though. Trying to meet outside the fence is a disaster waiting to happen. I once walked from gate B to gate A, because we had to join a friend to give him his ticket.
