Iron Maiden - 2005

Completely random thread but I'm just curious.

I wasn't on the forums at the time but what was the consensus on Iron Maiden in 2005 when they were booked and on their performance at the festival? Was my first time at Reading, went on the day just for them.

2005 was my first year although I only went on the Foos day.

Reading posts from around '05 on the forum archives it seems like Pixies were the forum favourite but people were pleased that there was a proper metal headliner playing.

Think I was only using Virtual Festivals back then , but was really happy when they were announced! 2005 was a great year, very diverse lineup.

2005 was my first year at leeds and still my favourite. Wasn't really bothered about Iron Maiden prior, was more looking forward to pixies, but was surprised how much i enjoyed them. Put on a really good show. It was the friday night, cold wind and the tried their hardest to whip up the crowd.

Foos also put on a great show, and I think that was before people got bored of them playing ten UK festivals every year! (Although I'm not as they're my favourite live band)

KOL were great and that was before anyone outside of the R/L demographic (at the time) had heard of them which was ironic as I thought they were placed too high! Even Razorlight were good that year.

Although The Charlatans and Dinosaur Jr's performances showed that they no longer work on large stages.

2005 was my first and probably the best Leeds for me.

Iron Maiden were one of the best festival performances win the 6 /7 years ive been going, want them to play again as they were on there back to the beast tour only playing stuff from the first 5 albums so we missed classics like fear of the dark. The trooper was a think to behold tho with everyones arms in the air.

Watching blockparty over iron maiden is a travesty btw like on of my friends going to watch the cribs over metallica last year, he will never live that down, utter balls

Saw 30 mins or so of Maiden, they were alright, Bloc Party were miles better. Each to their own and that.

the reason why i say its utter balls picking, bloc party, the cribs, the klaxons, is there bands that are young, new and will play a zillion times more, cock party have played atleast 100 times in the last 4 years i think and thats just at leeds. Iron Maiden/Metalllica are not everyday leeds/reading bands

But meh im not too botherd as someone says each to there own, just if you were in my group of friends, you would get abused

The whole Sharon Osbourne thing only happened in America. They were 2nd headliners to Ozzy on all of the Ozzfest dates in America. What happened was, Bruce Dickinson started slagging off Ozzy from the very first date, saying stuff like "We don't need a teleprompter to perform live" and "We don't need our own reality TV show" etc. It basically got too much for Sharon, who arranged for there to be eggs etc. thrown at Iron Maiden on the last date of the Ozzfest tour to get back at Bruce Dickinson for slagging off Ozzy when they were special guests to him throughout Ozzfest.
