robsadler
i saw the cribs last year and they were excellent! personally i'd rather have gone to bed early than watch metallica, i just don't enjoy their music. as i have mentioned on previous posts i have embarassingly chosen alien ant farm over system in a down in the past. i will never let myself live that one down! it was about 2000 i think and i was only about 18 and stupid.. robx

DaveElNino
With regards to the Maiden/Osbourne thing, when they did Leeds Bruce commented on it - I think before he launched in to The Trooper, repeating his "these colours don't run" comment. 2005 is the best year I've been to at the festival. I bought the official line-up t-shirt that year and I've had people comment on how good the line-up looks when people see it. The headliners were all awesome, but the R1 tent that year was my highlight - Art Brut, The Rakes (with guest vocalists), Blood Brothers, Death From Above 1979, yourcodenameis:milo, Maximo Park, Editors, The Subways, and Nine Black Alps all played early or in the middle of the day. It also had the classic Arctic Monkeys Carling tent set AND Arcade Fire wowing the Radio 1 Tent.
ste4_20
People on here were excited. I watched Bloc Party
scaryclaireyfairy
i started at bloc party, mosied on over to watch iron maiden for a couple of songs, pissed myself laughing at them (i can't be doing with all the grand-standing they go in for), and went back to bloc party. tylerdurden
Easily one of the best line-ups I've ever seen. Just look at the bands playing tiny slots, that a couple of years later become headliner/much higher material.
VCK
There was also a surprising amount of bands with large back catalogues playing Main and not headlining. I honestly don't think FR have the balls to book bands like Dinosaur Jr, The Charlatans, The Wedding Present, The Stooges and NOFX all in the same year any more. These days bands of that calibre are cynically relegated to the NME stage. And 2005 was probably the best set of headliners Reading and Leeds have had. moss265
the reason why i say its utter balls picking, bloc party, the cribs, the klaxons, is there bands that are young, new and will play a zillion times more, cock party have played atleast 100 times in the last 4 years i think and thats just at leeds. Iron Maiden/Metalllica are not everyday leeds/reading bands But meh im not too botherd as someone says each to there own, just if you were in my group of friends, you would get abused
Chill
Metallica tour constantly - I don't see your point. And would you rather go and see an act you wouldnt enjoy as much just because you deem it a "rarer" event?
VCK
Thats very true - I disagree about the headliners though. They are all good bands that I like but they are a bit of a bland combination, I dont think there is one that would make me ecstatic. thomasowen
I don't think they're bland at all and they're a stronger set than this year's headliners.
VCK
There not bland individualy (well maybe Foo Fighters) but together they dont really excite me, there isn't a standout act for me like there is this year and I always like one more contemporary act headlining. scottt
In my eyes they're the perfect mix of Indie (Pixies), Rock (Foos) and Metal (Maiden). This year it's just Indie (Arctics), Indie (KOL) and Indie that's been around for longer than ten years (Radiohead).

tylerdurden
KOL aren't indie are they. Pigeon detectives are Indie.
