Healing Fields

I am really into alternative therapies so I have promised myself at least one session in the Healing Fields. What I want to know is, what is there, how much do they charge, and does anyone have any recommendations?

I've had Reiki before and it's fantastic, very relaxing, so if nothing else I will go for that, but I would like to try something new as well.

There are so many different kinds of therapies at the Healing Fields that the problem is always deciding which one to try! This isn't a comprehensive list but I do remember seeing in the past:

- sound bath therapy

- seated chair massage

- crystal healing

- acupressure

- acupuncture

- reiki

- colour therapy

- hopi ear candles

- reflexology

- sports massage

- thai massage

- organic facials

- moon rebirthing

- indian head massage

- aromatherapy massage

and of course sessions throughout the day of yoga, chi gung, tai chi and meditation. Oh and the sauna.

One thing I will say is that the therapists seem to get booked up really quickly - to take bookings they put a sheet with times outside their yurt/tent and people write their names... so get there early if you do want to book something

Prices can vary and at air circle towards the top of the field there were some massage therapists offering free treatments... but last year it seemed to be between £10-£20 for half an hour. In past years some have also operated a donation system where they will take what you can afford.

I'm not sure if she'll be there - but if she is there is a therapist called Pixie-therapy who does amazing indian head massage. Leaves you feeling all light and buzzing and happy!

Have fun!

p.s. if you really like alternative therapies you might be interested in the Healing Fields Gathering

Hi Mandypants,

I found this info from the Glastonbury 2004 site archive which may be of some interest too :

The Healing Fields

Put you feet up: meditation, a sauna, massage, osteopathy, shiatsu, aromatherapy, counselling… it’s all here.

Within the peaceful atmosphere of the Healing Area, there is an exciting blend of healing arts and spiritual/therapeutic orientations as well as fiery celebrations and play. The area is designed as an elemental mandala of Fire, Air, Earth and Water. Each of these circles express a distinct quality of healing which you can experience as you move through the field. Within each circle there is a beautiful garden and sacred space, and all workshops and events are free.

The Fire Circle is the circle of Inspiration and Vision. This is the place to come for Celebration and Dance, Troubadour Music and Creative Games. You’ll also find on-going yoga sessions and shamanic journeying.

In the Air Circle, you can discover healing on a more spiritual level. Within the Chi Gung Bender and the Chanting Dome you can discover deep harmonies within yourself through the movement of you body or the opening of your voice. Meanwhile, you can find space for quiet contemplation in the Meditation Yurt. And if you want to find out about your astrology or get a tarot reading there is Soothsayers’ Avenue just below the Air Circle leading into the camping field.

The Earth and Water Circles are the places to go for individual healing sessions. You’ll find practitioners offering a wide range of Healing Arts, including massage, osteopathy, shiatsu, sacral cranial, spiritual healing, aromatherapy, counselling, reflexology and more. Healing sessions will take place either in three designated marquees or in individual healers’ tents. An exchange for services can be made through a negotiated donation. No one will be turned away.

Within the Earth Circle you can also learn about these different therapies in the Healing Arts Bender. Other features include the Body and Soul’s Sauna and Sacred Space, the Homeopathy Marquee and Herbalism Centre. The Travelling Homeopaths Collective was established in the summer of 1990 to provide the Homeopathic Clinic. This progressive charity is run by professional Homeopaths on a voluntary basis. Homeopathy is a safe and gentle therapy, which uses the energy of plants, minerals and other substances. It looks at the whole person, identifying the cause and matching this to a remedy. It can treat may ills, such as sunstroke, hay fever, asthma, colds, upset stomachs, constipation.

In all my Glasto's, last year in the Healing Fileds was one of my most favourite moments.

Our crew had a wander up on the Thursday afternoon , sat in the sun and had a few drinks and smokes

whilst some friends did Yoga.

We kept the noise down , and just sat saying very little and just taking it all in was wonderful !

Healing fields are ace, though not quite what they were i don't think. Every year i've been past a tent with just a sign outside saying 'zero balancing'. No idea what it is, do you go in there and get pushed over? Must wander in someday...

After a pretty shit 12 months I have to say that one of the things I'm looking forward to most this year is going up to the healing fields and getting myself a lovely long massage to destress, relax and get myself in the perfect frame of mind for the weekend ahead!

The last time I was there (2004) you needed to book early in the festival, like wednesday or thursday with some of them.

I went for a shiatsu which lasted about an hour, the guy just asked to be paid what ever I could afford and thought it was worth. I think I have him around £10-15 at the time.

Over and above all ther therapies you can have there it is also a very nice chilled out part of the festival away from the big crowds

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind to try to get over there early on, I'm going on Wednesday morning so hopefully I'll be lucky, otherwise I might just hang around and see if one of the appointments doesn't turn up, like at the doctors  I imagine it is sweet respite from the madness of the rest of the festival, just to be able to sit in a peaceful area and soak up some calming energies for a while.

I absolutely love the healing fields and it's a definate must to get a treatment there.

Last year on the Saturday I had a thai back massage and went back later that day to see an osteopath who cured my knee problem in minutes. I'd had this problem for about 20 years and only taking daily supplements of Glucosamine Sulphate allowed me pain relief and ability to move my knee freely. He gave them a very painful 'tweek' and they have been no problem since, no supplements!

However, when he cracked all the bones in my spine I could have thrown up!

The best £10 - £20 you will ever spend. This year I want to get a reading done of some sort aswell.
