Mocumentary of classic proportions - If you grew up with 60's ,70's, or 80's bands then no doubt you can pick out your own guess to who they are mocking - all in good taste; I bet most who saw and didn't find funny were probably taking those genres to seriously - The more you watch the more you see; Their acting was spot on - you don't really think of it as a following a band - I could see a mixture of bands and singers hinted

Nigel Tufnel for instance could be Jeff Beck - he even looks similar - throwing backstage strops to boot and telling the interviewer that he couldn't even point at his guitar let alone touch it.

David st hubbins was the one with the dominating girlfriend who wanted to muscle in on the act - Richie blackmore, john lennon/yoko spring to mind

Derek smalls and his 'pod' was probably a take on alice cooper and his props

Even early floyd were picked out with a see emily playish song in b&w

Some of the lyrics and song titles were picking up on bands who talked sex (whitesnake) , violence/black themes (judas priest), or mythology/history (Dio)

The band paraded and throwed shapes like the many metal bands in the 80's - The scorpions spring to mind

Drummers who met unfortunate endings - could be a mixture of people here (not just drummers) but the joke is that it wasn't run of the mill endings - Could be based on keith moon, but also loads of others who've perhaps choked in their own vomit, or spontaniously combusted

The most realistic part was that the actors (they have all done well since) all played well and can carry off the music in real life

I for one am looking forward to Tap -

Of course they're actors, do you think Patrick Mcnee from The Avengers is a music executive? It's a piss taking documentary, or mockumentary as they're better known. It takes swipes at the cheesey rock bands of the 80's. Even Bruce Dickenson of Maiden cringes when anyone mentions spandex to him nowadays.

Maybe watch Christopher Guests other mockumentary 'Best In Show'. This takes swipes at dog shows/crufts. It doesn't sound exciting but it's very funny, clever, and a brilliant film.

Live wise they wont be the greatest. Lyricaly they sing about sinking a girl with his pink torpedo or bum flaps. I doubt Niel Young would be worried. What you'll get is a few catchy tunes filled with cheesey lyrics, and some accidents and comedy on stage, and that's the whole point.

As it goes, 99% of comedy-music stuff makes me want to poke my eyes and ears out. Rolf et al? you can stuff them, i don't do 'ironic', I don't do 'so shit it's good' or any of that stuff.

Tap, however, for me is different. It's extraordinarily well observed, the music has a genuine level of talent and skill, both in the writing and the playing. I baulked at the wembley gig, cos I didn't think 90 minutes of their songs would be that good and the joke would wear thin, but 40 minutes of their greatest hits at Glastonbury? I'm really looking forward to it.

F*** Rolf - how very dare you. That would be like abusing the Glasto temples that are Jools and John Otway. There are some things that I can turn a blind eye to, but not that! Two little boys for Gods sake!

The Tap could do The Darkness slot from 2003 and start the festival off and then do a headline at smaller stage. This will be a great Glasto moment if it happens and I for one will be turning it up to 11 and hope for Glasto they brought in 30 lead guitarists on stage with them. Sex farm indeed! Does this mean we can have Hawkwind too?
