Food dilemma for a baby.

My one year old usually has veg, mash and whatever we're eating really when shes at home with us.

But dont want to give her just beans from a tin when we get to glasto.

Want to provide variety and something healthy.

Trying to be imaginative but need more ideas.

We'll be cooking and buying from stalls.

Anyone have experience or advice to share?

I breastfed last year and it was super convenient.

There is a large fruit and veg stall up in the Green Fields (on way up to stone circle so you can't miss it) which sells a good variety of fresh items.

Might be of some use if you want to make your own fresh food on site.

Just a thought - hope this helps :P

We camped nest to a couple at End of the raod last year with a 1 year old. They preapsred meals as you do inn the same way at home.

They made, Beanfeast, Tofu, veg mix all with proper veg, using the spoil first veg on the Friday.

If you are going to have an hour or two out a day, I don't think you can go wrong with taking:

Onions

Carrots

Swede

Beans

Tomatoes

Spring Onions

Tofu

Soya

Beanfeast

Tom Purée

Stock cubes

Meat for the first night

Dumpling mix (measured out at home and taken in a bag)

and then any flavours you wished to add.

I take everything with me I cook at home down to made up dumpling mix. If you can cook it in the oven stew wise then you can do it on the bas burner.

Beanfeast can be bulked out with veg (onions, carrots etc) Tin toms, although moving away from fresh are just great as a sauce to add flavour to. Add some chopped carrots, swede, garlic, onion and then add pasta and simmer and you are sorted.

Loads and loads of options.

I will one day only cook at a whole festival, however cider prevents that at the moment! :P

Cheers for the shopping list Strudders, all sounds good and healthy.

If I can do it on a hob at home I can do it on a burner like you said.

Not sure about the beanfeast though..

Porridge is another good idea.

Tried her on a small tin of kids pasta with tomato sauce today. Don't like to but needs must.

The salt, sugar and fat are all low and she seemed to enjoy it.

Will maybe make some stew, freeze it and take it for the fist day and a half to make sure she gets her veggies. The next day will be fruit and veg based stuff if i can find it. will check the greenfields.

I'm not a parent either, but my mate's daughter has just turned 1 year old, and she eats proper solid food. In tiny portions of course.

You just don't want to be piling them full of salt. I think that's the age when you can start using cow's milk too.

I gather it varies tremendously with the individual.

Hi

I am taking my 13 month old and I will be taking some organic baby rice with me so that I can ask for sauce or soup from the various stalls and just add the rice to thicken it up.

Also the crepes stalls are amazing and babies love the pancakes broken up into bite size pieces and

We also tried him on stir fry this weekend cut up into very small pieces and he loved it. If you have been to Glastonbury before you know what kind of stalls are there so try cooking some of the variety there and giving it now so you can pick out the favourites when you get there!

Also the Feed and Change tent in the Kidz Field has highchairs, microwaves and feeding equipment if you want to bring any pre packaged favourites with you so at least you know your baby is getting one good meal a day. They also have some supplies of baby food if you get really stuck. They had Ella's Kitchen pouches last year and lots of fruit snacks.

Hope that helps

:(

Cheers for that. Forgot about Yeo Valley!

I took my then 3 and half month old to the changing tent last year where she had a lovely warm bath...I was jealous.

Forgot they had microwaves so will take full advantage.

Was going to leave her at home but really excited about taking her now.

6 weeks!

We took our eldest when he was 15 months, and generally managed to feed him from the stalls. Can't remember the full details as it was 5 years ago, but highlights were potato wedges with hummous from somewhere in the Jazz World field and a lovely split pea and rice thing from one of the asian food stalls in the main market area. I also made sure I took loads of snacky low salt things like rice cakes and breadsticks.

This year we will also have no 2 with us who will be 14 months, so I'll be keeping my eye out for you guys on the family field!
