Little Joy

Ok, so Emily Eavis said that Little Joy's album was her favorite last year, and the Gorge has these guys down as confirmed for the Park stage. They're a really great band.

In 2007 Los Hermanos vocalist Rodrigo Amarante teamed up with Fabrizio Moretti, drummer of The Strokes, to form Little Joy. What’s truly surprising about the results is how much Little Joy lend their sound from The Strokes, considering they share little more than half a rhythm section (evidently, you can take the drummer out of The Strokes but you can’t take The Strokes out of the drummer); in fact, Moretti turns out to be a rather handy songwriter, penning the vast majority of Little Joy’s self-titled debut.

And he’s done a very good job. It’s one of the best records of the year, a glorious marriage of Moretti’s New York strut (see: How To Hang A Warhol) and Amarante’s Brazilian haze (see: Evaporar). All-in-all, a refreshingly unpretentious treat.

Hey, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but just been on Little Joy's myspace and they're playing Mexico City on the Saturday of the festival so would seem pretty unlikely to be playing glasto now. Shame, really like the album
