10-15 years ago is irrelevant to now. They had a lucky run back then of international big names (Bruce, Stevie, U2, Beyoncé, the Stones though they’re English anyway) who wanted to tick it off. At least 3 of them took a very long time too-they certainly were not done ‘without much effort.’ Ticket prices for acts own Arena and Stadium shows have gone up hugely since then so for international acts Glastonbury looks less attractive.
You’re underestimating this years headliners though. Acts will always be booked on how big they are in the UK. It’s one act who hasn’t sold much recently but is an all-time revered legend and two of three that have all sold out Arenas and had multiple number 1 albums (and in Rodrigo’s case singles) in the U.K. Times change, that’s all. As of now they’re all very relevant in the U.K.
