See both of those London shows have nearly sold out now. Have to say I'm expecting BIG things from the Saturday night! No gig for the two days after - theyre gonna blow the doors off The Roundhouse!

I'm gonna stick with just the one night in London as myself and Ollan are off to Berlin two weeks later to see them play there.

Tony if you fancy a swift half gimme a shout. Also Tugger if he's lurking around of course. Celebratory one in order there sunshine.

Any ideas for a decent hotel within staggering distance?

ah, so this is where the Wilco thread is...

2 nights in Central Park this past week. brilliant shows both. second night opened with an incredible One Sunday Morning.

and yes, as mentioned on here, Nick Lowe supporting both nights. "i'm serving as the rectal thermometer here...gauging the temperature of the audience, and reporting back to Wilco" is what he said first night. Incredible gigs both nights. Great new record, but TBlair said it perfectly (on my attemtp at a Glasto wilco thread) where he casts any Wilco recorded version as a mere demo for how its performed live. coulndt have said it any better.

Enjoy the shows. Can't wait to see them again. Hope you'll consider Solid Sound next year during the fallow Glasto year!

sorry we didn't get to meet up... I got a space quite near the front just before the end of Jonathan Wilson, and was worried I wouldn't get back...!

I thought last night was amazing.... possibly better than the first night... lots of different songs. I still love Hummingbird, the new songs sound great live... Jeff's solo in At Least That's What You Said was surprising in it's intensity, Pat's guitar playing is really good too.... it's Wilco... what can you say?

but the version of Cruel To Be Kind with Nick Lowe was special... I'd seen how he'd been doing a couple of other songs in America with him, but CTBK was fantastic. Perfect too... all those acoustic guitars, the feeling everyone had for Nick

really special

funny thing was, I'd been to see Jim Jones Revue a couple of nights ago, and Nick was in the bar there too (with Mark Lamarr)... my wife wanted to go up to him and just say "our kids were born listening to your music"....

I worked with Gypie Mayo of Dr Feelgood once, and he said how great Nick was when he was producing the Feelgoods. Gypie came up with the riff to Milk and Alcohol, and Nick wrote the song, and gave Gypie 50% of the credit. It's a great riff, but that was very generous imo

The 1hr45 format seems very very rushed. Amazingly fast changeovers, tracks barely over before next one begins, little or no audience interaction, pressure on crew and band to clickclickclick through the set. When youve got a couple of epic tracks that are going to be played every single show this leaves little or no wiggle room for a band that are used to playing easily a half hour longer on most normal shows.

In some ways the intensity of this really works - the solos on LeastThats and ImpossGerm for example - best I've ever heard them. But in other ways not - bar Lowe's appearance this was the most downbeat and "pressurised" I've seen Wilco since 2004.

There was a palpable tension in the air where I was. Don't get me wrong - this was pretty awesome... as I said the opening 8 tracks were as good a run as I've seen... but I do hanker after a balance. Box Full of Letters / War on War / Open Mind took the heat out of the opening but IMO could have been replaced with tracks a little more upbeat. Lot of talk about death and dying in this Wilco setlist.

Im not knocking the fast change overs - far from it. These kinda changeovers have come about due to the truncated performance time. There was no reason why Wilco couldnt have come out at 9pm and played till 11.

A record store owner I know who _really_ knows his Wilco has told me "theyve gotten a little precious" in recent years. This arsey reduction in the length of their set is an indication of this. Granted its a long tour, voices and energy levels need to be protected... but the ticket prices havent come down to match these shorter sets. I was fully satisfied on Saturday, but friends of mine were a little disappointed.

Roundhouse is a nice venue aswell... but it ain't a feckin' PATCH on Vicar Street in Dublin for a show. For a kickoff it was next to impossible to see and I'm quite tall. Very envious of the "members" section upstairs with the fancy tables!!!!

Did you get a poster? They were gone when I went to the table. I'll try and get one in Berlin. Theyre lovely.

Sounds like y'all had a good time. Agreed on the roundhouse viewing, when wevwatched bob there I could just about see him and my beloved couldn't see the stage at all.

Nazareth was nice. As was Kinneret. Haifa I can take or leave, other than the bear pub.
