Kidney mead

It was my first Glasto last year and we camped in Kidney Mead, near to Big Ground. I thought it was a great location, nice and central, great people around you. We're hoping to end up in a similar spot this year!

There was a catering tent there that was open 24 hours a day and it sold the most amazing pineapple slush drinks. They were a fab way to start the day!

Yep deffo saw your flag last year! It made me want the sour tang-tastic haribo everytime I walked by it and had me singing 'kids and grown ups love it so the happy world of Glasto' over and over again!

Our flag is shaped like a fish. Bit like this one but its pink and purple. We've also got a new multi coloured spinny flag thing this year to add to the collection!

Easy access to Cider Bus, Pyramid, Acoustic Tent, real ale bar in Acoustic Tents field, this year no leftfield (cinema in its place) the large Joe Bananas and the stall run by a local bakers (fresh rolls, nice pastries).

Every time I have camped there, the sound balance from the pyramid has been excellent (even the year of the poor sound system) but no visibility. So its not the place to camp if you have been up all night and want a lay in (but the sound checks and first act on do work as a very good alarm clock!).

Is Kidney Mead alright then?

I'm yet to decide between Kidney Mead or Dairy Ground. not too bothered about proximity to anything, just dont want to get the tent flooded in the event of a downpour cos the burd would kill me

I always camp in Wicket Ground but now that the cinema has moved I fancy a change

You'll not get flooded in Kidney Mead, certainly not in the top half of it anyway!

I've never camped anywhere else (maybe one day!) but personally I know Kidney Mead suits me just fine in relation to atmosphere, proximity to a lot of things etc. :P

good stuff :P

I know Kidney Mead fairly well cos my mates camped there one year, plus I've trudged past it many a time on my way up to the cash machine at the top og Big Ground

may well give it a go this year, though I reckon we'll be put into the West Car Parks, coming from the north as we are, so that might have a large bearing on where we end up. Though rest assured that if we do end up in Kidney Mead and see a half-saltire, half-tricolour we'll give you a shout :D

That's not my flag! That's Scappaflow's :P

There will be a Saltire, a haribo flag and another flag which hasn't been revealed yet. :P Ampersand will no doubt be close by with his collection of flags and lights too.

Will you be coming down the A37 from Bristol through Shepton Mallet. Coming from Scotland this is the way I've always done it and always been in the East carparks. Though travelling through on the wednesday morning from Taunton this year.

oh right *headslapsmiley* i get mixed up with all these flags

I've only ever driven down once, in 2002, from Glasgow and we were put in the west car parks, i just assumed that was the natural way of things?

Haven't actually mapped out my route yet so I'm not 100%

If Ampersand ends up camped next to my lot then it'll just be loads of flags concentrated in the one small area!

Normally I would do:

  • M74

  • M6

  • M5

  • M4

  • M32 (I think)

  • A37

to Shepton Mallet then through Pylle and that takes us to the East carparks.

Not entirely sure which roads are which going through Bristol (know it when I do it if that makes sense?). When going through Bristol in the past couple of years we seem to use some kind of by-pass to get us to the A37, possibly the A4032/A4044 looking at the map.

looking at the map just now, the A403 looks like the Bristol Bypass

in 2002 we had to do a massive detour to avoid the british grand prix so came at glastonbury from a funny angle (ahem)

what about keeping on the M5 all the way down past bristol til we hit the A39 and approaching the site from the west?
