I bought a pay as you go Orange from Carphone Warehouse last year £5 if I bought a £10 topup. It came with 100 minutes free evening and weekend calls too, so I didn't need to top it up!

Good thing about having a Glasto PAYG is that you only need to give the number to people you want to call you, so you don't waste your battery dealing with people that want to sell you stuff.

Plus if you give your number out to people when you are trollied and then wished you didn't, at least they don't have your main number.

I was tempted to get an internet phone for the Orange application that lets you see schedule updates and stuff, but I suppose if you listen to Worthy FM then you can get the info just the same.

As others have said, the best option is a few cheap clone batteries from eBay, charge them up before hand and swap them out as you go. I use a really old Nokia as my festival phone.

There's lots of contention on the networks, and everything is interference limited, so mobiles deplete their power a lot faster at Glasto.

The small cheap battery chargers that are sold at the festivals and at supermarkets are pants. Very expensive and poor. You need a decent one with a DC converter onboard to get the most out of the battery. If you want a portable charger, get something like Power Traveller PowerChimp. That takes 2xAA NiMH batteries (or normal batteries in an emergency).

Solar Power does work, but will take a very long time and really needs proper direct sunshine. Again, get something decent like Power Traveller Power Monkey. You can charge from solar or from the NiMH battery pack. The battery pack you can pre-charge at home from the mains, and have a charge from that.

The Orange Chill'n'Charge tent is free, but has massive queues on Saturday/Sunday. You can usually get in on the Friday without queue, with then perhaps only a minimal wait inside to find the right cable/table for your phone. So it's possible to top-up your phone on Friday if need be.

As Lucy says, better to find a stall in the quieter areas that will do it for you for a fee. Big plus with this, you can leave your phone and come back later. Orange place, you need to stand by the phone whilst it charges, which is a waste of precious festival time.

Well I love my iPhone 3G and I'm fairly confident I can manage not to lose or break it so it's coming with me. I'm going to try one of these out to see if they cut the mustard: link to iPhone charger

I converted my airbed inflator to use AA batteries and my torches all use AA batteries - I'm banking on a pile of good quality rechargable AA batteries to satisfy my festival power requirements!

After testing this week, I reckon my IPhone lasts a good 3 days and that's with 3g on, making multiple phone calls and sending multiple texts. So I reckon I can make it last until Saturday night at Glastonbury (from Wednesday), with switching it off at night and having 3G off. I am also going to bring my work phone and a spare battery so hoping I should be OK this year.

I'm not taking my iphone either, probably take an old nokia or something that will more than likely stay turned off and in the tent. Mainly because work are gits and will ring me even while away. Usually take a pair of walki talki's aswell to keep in contact with my girlfriend when she gets lost which happens a few times each year!!

There's nothing wrong with the battery life on the iphone. It's just the berks that have them can't stop fiddling with them. If you're on the internet all the time or listening to tunes then of course it's not gonna last. I've got an iphone 3G and when I use it mostly as a phone the battery lasts at least a couple of days.
