First year (2005) it was just me and my boyfriend with a uni mate and his mates. They always brought a gazebo with them. It was great to hanging up clothes to dry after the big storm!

In 2007 and 2008 we had our friends huge tent which we all tended to congregate in as it had a big central area. This year he isn't coming though so a gazebo would be handy to have. Will have to have a think about it.

I've taken a gazebo the past two years and it's great for a communal area between tents (usually 4 or 5 tents in the group). They are a hassle to carry from the car though and something always seems to break in the process of building it (mon the gaffa tape!) so this year we're taking a massive tent instead.

Similar experience to mynameisearll; they're a pain to carry from the carpark, especially if not in the original box. Thousands of poles involved!

A few of mine have collapsed in the past; so I used to then pre-wrap all the joints and weak points in gaffa tape. Make sure all the poles are square and angled correctly; otherwise under wind they can bend and snap.

I used to also fit some massive pegs to the guy-ropes and gazebo feet; not the original weedy ones.

I won't be bothering with one this year, just take a bigger tent instead! :(

I hope it won't piss down this year that I'm not taking one :( , gazebo was great for creating a water-proof area between tents in our tent circle.

Another ex gazebo taker here, great once you've hauled it on-site and set the thing up but a total pain in the arse until then!

I'm now a Quechua tarp convert. Quarter the weight, quarter the hassle ;)

Have you used yours yet. I was intending to buy one...

my worry is that the 'roof' needs the guy ropes to go a long way out to get much effect from it. As we'll have a few tents congregating together, maybe we could tie the guy ropes to 2 or 3 of the tents...?

Oooooh how Australian! We were very impressed by the scale of tarp coverage usage in Oz and hoped someone may be bringing something similar to the Big G. We witnessed 15mx15m erections in some of the places visited :P

Remember Camp Funk 07? The uber tarp we had over the central camping area saved our bacon during the 1pm Friday pm downpour.

And gazebo's...always remember to put the tenty bit on BEFORE YOU PUT THE FULL LENGTH OF THE POLES ON! :D Seen too many eedjits try to put up the tent bit over a full size, too tall for the shortarses to help out frame and then the witnesses all around fall about laughing cos it blows away seconds later!

Best tip for gazebos though is...put it up on the Friday because it is ALWAYS ridiculously windy on Wed and Thurs for some reason! :(

We take a 3 metre square concertina gazebo - from Argos for about £60 a few years ago. Goes up in two minutes, very robust (lasted six festivals so far) and no problems with poles having to be taped together with gaffer tape.

It's got sides you can fix complete with windows but that does make it prone to strong winds so we just use it as our centre point without the sides with our tents around.

Yes, it's heavy to carry but so are weightlifting weights to hold down a tarp (someone's earlier suggestion).

Great communal spot to shelter from the blistering hot sun we're going to have or shelter from the r**n we're not going to have.
