Barrier at the Pyramid?

Guest Mr Ploppy

Recommended Posts

Not being someone who is in the front row of Glasto gigs, just wondered what the score is with that quarter way barrier.

Last year who watched a night gig and found ourselves behind this barrier which seems to be between the central console area and the front.

Just wondered, if I wanted to get nearer to the front would I (apart from getting there earlier) just enter from the side of the crowd in front of that barrier?

Just curious.

Ta!

yeah, you can just go round the sides of the barrier.

its not like a so-called golden circle which only those with special tickets can get into like at some other festivals.

all the barrier does is stop crushing at the front to prevent any roskilde-type tragedies (when 8 people were crushed to death). the curved barrier shifts the forces from towards the stage out to the sides.

dunno. the only time i went in front of it for a headliner i was there about half an hour before and it was really empty. it got chaotic and a bit tight maybe 10 mins before they came on. i had to leave cos it was just too much. (it was muddy 07 and i had no faith in keeping my feet in all the jostling).

edit: nb. i could have had 10 rows back on that occasion easily.

i've been about 4 rows back for paul mccartney (close enough to feel the heat of the pyrotechnics during live or let die) but that was pre-barrier & i can't really remember how early we got there.

wow, what a useless post. at least it bumps my post count up a bit. do you think i can reach 3000 by glastonbury? my aim was 2000 but i passed that and didn't even notice

edit: if i get 22 posts per day for the next 36 days i'll do it

i'm pretty sure there will be a number of bruce fans in for the duration on the saturday!

will be interesting to see what line-up they get leading up to bruce, judging against last year which was a real mixture of acts:

shakin stevens - martha wainwright - seasick steve - crowded house - james blunt - raconteurs - manu chao - winehouse - jayz. some real highs and lows there!

huum difficult to answer - the way I play it

firstly - can you stand to listen to the bands that proceed - if no arrive after

decide on how much time is too much time

then turn up at that time, if its already rammed with t-shirts that say "marry me mr artist in question" give up then and enjoy a perspective view later :D

if its rammed with others, move in and more central each chance you get.....

Was about 3 from the front to see Bloc Party, then had to endure The Fratellies to keep my space for Kasabian and then Artic Monkeys. I know what people mean about it being manic when big headliners come on, i managed to be pushed bacl to about 10 from the front and then ended up 2 from the front. Didnt fall over due to the sheer amount of people around me, was worth it though.
