Glastonbury traditions

Cheese & red wine picnic above the Stone Circle on Wednesday night - watching the Festival come to life. Listening to the waves of cheers & watching chinese lanterns float into the distance (don't really think they should be at the Festival, but they do look good).

Yes stay at home, but not this year, not for all the tea in China, stupidly excited about it all!

This year I hope to avoid my festival tradition of the following:

Friendly hippy: "Would you like some hash cakes?"

Me: "How much?"

Friendly hippy: "3 for a tenner"

Me "Ok, I'll take 3. How many do I need for a good time?"

Friendly hippy: "One will get you nicely stoned, two will get you proper mashed"

Me: "Hmmm... I think I'll eat 3 just to be safe"

45 minutes later...

Me "OH GOD... WHY DO I NEVER LEARN!!!"

I love our driving down routine. It is ever so slightly different each year but tends to consist of me waking up first and screaming at everyone else who is in the house and going to Glastonbury, that they must get up. Then calling anyone who has slept elsewhere. Then we load the car and go to meet some other people at another house. By this point it is about 45 minutes after we planned to leave and rush hour has started. We then get caught in lots of traffic, finally make it to the M4 and then have to stop at Reading because someone needs the toilet. This stop then turns into an 'Oh s**t, I forgot to buy cigarettes/need to buy a camping chair/should get some spare lighters/a cofeee/Red Bull/Haribo' kind of stop.

On at least three occasions throughout the journey I manage to lose my phone in the small space around me and also panic about whether we have our tickets. We end up stopping at least once more as someone else needs the toilets.

Then finally we approach the festival site and park up. It is always hectic, always slightly stressful and very, very fun. :P

When we finally arrive, I light up a cigarette (although don't smoke anymore!) and get one of my bottles of decanted vodka and orange out, before we put up the tents, hunt for some fire wood and then stroll around the site and get some lovely lunch type food at about 10am!

I love that first day. There is just so much going on, so much excitement and so much anticipation. :O

My first pint of Hot & Spicy! 51 long weeks in the waiting! :P

Another tradition is preparing and consuming my first bottle of LusciousLucy's Glasto cocktail: Stoli, soda, cranberry and lime. Never leaves my side from Friday to Sunday! And then leads to all sorts of hideousness which I always regret but still make it up every year! :O

Veggie breakfast at Fleet services early on Wednesday morning after we have been travelling since 4 in the morning...... oh cant wait

Last year there was only 1 poor person serving breakfasts to a queue nearly out the door. I spoke to a so called mananger who said he didnt realise that Glastonbury was on <_< and they were short of staff. Very frustrating. P'raps I will send them an email reminding them this year.

We're like little kids going to the seaside - shout who's first to see the sea - only it's shout who's first to see Glastonbury Tor.
