Leaving baggage on the way?

Guest Dorgon

Hi there!

I'm flying directly from San Francisco to Heathrow, arriving at 1:30 PM. I intend to go directly from the airport to the festival through a combination of buses and trains, and then get camping gear onsite.

My question is, where can I leave my bag that's going to have all the stuff for a week in London? (Respectable clothes, decent shoes, netbook) Are the lockers at Heathrow? At the train stations? Do I just bring it with me and leave it at the onsite lockups for the entire festival?

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Left baggage

There are left baggage offices in each terminal at Heathrow. Baggage and luggage items can be stored for a few hours or up to 90 days. All items are security checked.

Charges are £8 per item per 24 hours (or part thereof).

Competitive unaccompanied baggage rates and services are available, and you can also buy luggage and travel accessories.

The service is operated by the Excess Baggage Company. Telephone +44 (0)20 8759 3344 or email heathrow@excess-baggage.com for more information.

Left baggage office locations

Terminal 1: Arrivals concourse, next to the lifts for Heathrow Express. Open 06:00 - 23:00.

Terminal 2: Near the Lufthansa check-in desk. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

Terminal 3: Departures, check-in zone C, opposite Turkish Airlines, open 06:00 - 22:00. Arrivals hall, near car hire desks, open 05:00 - 23:00.

Terminal 4: West end of the arrivals hall. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

Terminal 5: Arrivals concourse, UK arrivals end. Open 05:30 - 23:00.

Please note that due to security reasons there are no lockers for storing your luggage.

Although lugging your bag all the way to Glastonbury and leaving it in the lock ups may be a pain wiht having to carry it, it would mean that you can just grab it and go straight to central London on the Monday, which, when you are tired, may be a bit nicer than having to do the trip. But like Pezzy said, it'd be a pain having to take it to the site. But I guess if you don't have campsite stuff then it won't be so bad!

Thinking about it, could you just bring one big backpack with all your stuff in for a week in London and 5 days at the festival. Take it all to Glastonbury, transfer your stuff for Glastonbury into a smaller backpack (little rucksack type thing) and then put bigger backpack into lockups?

Saying that, the idea of left luggage at Paddington seems far better.

Or do you know what hotel you are staying at later in the week? Most hotels would be happy for you to leave your stuff with them for a few days if you are coming to stay with them, or at least they are abroad. I assume it is the same here!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I think I may bring everything there and use the lockers. I won't be bringing more over from the states than I can carry comfortably on my back, so no worries there.

I'm sure there'll be more questions to come. Can't wait to be there!

hey mate

i wouldn't want to leave my netbook in lockup at the festival, i suspect it says they aren't liable for any items stolen i.e. if lockers get broken into ...like gyms etc have , as lockers are always broken into

im not sure about the airport one, don't take the netbook, just bring clothes/shoes

oh right, sorry i hadnt ever used them, i was going on what i thought of normal lockers - i thought it would be like that, unmanned rows of lockers, unmanned leaving them open for abuse

glad ive been proved wrong :)

i guess on that then its prob better to use the lockup at glasto than left luggage at a station?

Yep... lockups are top. I leave £lotsK of camera gear in them.

(One year I left it a bit late to pick up on the Monday, and our local lock up had closed. So I chased over to the central one, where everything uncollected was being consolidated.

At that point I thought, this is going to take AGES... cos' they'll have to sift through all the stuff incoming from around the site. After I handed my ticket over, the lady asked "So, what does your bag look like?"... "Oh it's a black sort of bag... it's got my camera in... " I started to mumble, thinking they'd have no chance of finding quickly.

She just said... "oh, I think I know which one it is..." and then handed it to me about 5 seconds later.

Awesome service!

Drop it off at a police station explaining how you found it down the road & the stuff looks too important to be thrown out.

Return there after the festival enquiring if anyone had handed in some stuff that you had stolen. :D

P.S (Make sure that the bobby isn't the one that first dealt with you lol) :P
