Cinema Field

Hello Everyone!!

I must confess that I've been a lurker for a good half a year now... Crazy, i know, as this has to be one of the best set of forums I've been on, well done guys!

Back on topic, Just wanted to ask a quick question about the cinema field.

I'm going for my very first festival this year with just my girlfriend. Shes a little worried about glasto as people have told her that its for dads and aging rockers. Thanks to these twurps, i've now got a semi-sceptical partner for what I really want to be a cracking festival! Cheers...

Long story short, Aswell as a few acts she really likes, Her eyes lit up when i told her that there is an open-air cinema that (if i read right) is showing films from wednesday through to sunday. I was just wondering if one or two of you lot could let me know what days the cinema is showing?

Also, does anyone think that in the line-up release in the guardian will give any details of what films are on?

That aside, the day we got our tickets, the topic of glasto came up in a conversation with her grandparents and they couldn't believe the price when i mentioned it... "You could have gone to Spain for the weekend for that kind of money..." I just laughed.

And yer, like i said, cracking forum guys.

Heres for the best glasto ever! :P

-Austin

I've walked through the Cinema Field but it was always such a trek I never bothered seeing anything there. Plus I've always thought there's so much more to do than watching movies at a festival?!

Either way, apparently it's no longer indoor but in the Acoustic tent. The films will be printed in the programme though I doubt before the festival begins in the papers. I belive it is open on Wednessday nights too.

the cinema used to be in a field in the north west of the site with an open-air screen and a tent as well.

this year will be the first year without the open-air screen as the field will now be used for crew camping and the cinema tent is moving to the same field that the acoustic tent is in.

i'm a bit sad as i quite liked the outdoor screen.

There is a thread about the Cinema Field moving /topic/115612-left-field-hole-filled-cinemas-on-the-move/">*HERE*.

Won't be same setup as previous years which is a pity as I have some good memories being there at 3am watching 'Sin City' a few years back ...

To the original poster, I am not saying that you guys won't enjoy the cinema tent - if that's your thing, then you enjoy it. However I think you and your girlfriend will be pleasantly surprised by how much is going on.

It sounds like your partner liked the idea of a cinema field to give her something to do - believe me, that's never a problem at Glastonbury! The real problem at Glastonbury is fitting everything in, which is probably why loads of seasoned Glasto goers on these forums have never even been to the cinema field, as you can watch films any day of the year.

Like I said though, everyone's experience is different, so however you choose to spend your time is all good. I hope you both have a wicked time :P

Yes, the cinema feild is there - its now on the other side of the site, and is smaller. The reason for it having an indoor was for "daylight performances" and once it was dark enough (or expected to be dark enough) the outdoor one would switch on.

I know that several users of the general camping above the feild were not to impressed by the bangs and such like, - but less impressed were the parents of the youngsters that were camping on the upper spring ground family area, who didn't apreiciate "scarey noises" waking their little ones at 3am in the morning.... so perhaps thats one reason for the move.

I also recall there being similar critisims being banded about in the disabled camp area (lower spring ground) - especially from those who had to sleep of night time medication and had no choice in their camping arrangements as they needed the extra help that the disabled camping offered them.

Now its located in an area that borders no camping directy (as I understand it) then it has less chance of upsetting people, especially those who don't have a lot of options where they pitch their tent.

If you see a movie listed that you really wanna see, then I recommend it - but go for a classic rather than a new film you wanna catch - it's all about the atmosphere and sharing it with thousands of other nutters :)

However, when it gets dark would normally be the best time to see one, but as has been said before, there's soooooo much more to do & see at night :(

Last time I went to Glasto (2002) I went to watch Amelie (having never seen it before) on the Thursday evening. Got 5 minutes into the film and I think the screen started deflating (was it inflatable?). However, those five minutes were enough for me to go out and buy the film as soon as I got home.

I think I also got a little stoned and watched Monsters Inc that year instead of the Stereophonics. I don't regret it one bit. :)

So just to clarify, I know it's been moved to the Acoustic Field, but will it just be the indoor cinema now?

If so that's a pity. That used to be our Thursday night every year (never been any other day)... Goonies is one of my favourite Glasto memories!

Oh and to the original poster, as far as I know it only ever started on the Thursday evening... not sure about the indoor one.

Yeah was great fun watching Back To The Future last year. Even though it was raining there were actually quite a lot of people there, I had my wet weather stuff on and really enjoyed myself! I've had some great times in the cinema field. Goonies, Ghostbusters, Big Lebowski! Was so good watching the Stones film Shine A Light at 2am Monday morning last year as Chinese Lanterns were let off and I every now and again looked round at all the lovely lights of Glastonbury behind me...!

Oh well. At least the kids in the family camping will get some peace! I'm looking forward to watching a few movies in its new home though. It's nice sometimes to just stop for a while and watch a film at the festival. If anyone hasn't tried it before, you really should, it's a great experience :)
