I had a different argos pro-action tent in the past. They are pretty poor quality compared to vango etc. Mine leaked a little during the 2005 storm and the windows were falling apart after 1 year. Putting a space blanket over the top stopped the leaking.

Still not bad for £25.

BTW: looks like tickets are on sale now www.seetickets.com/g2009/

I think you're better off investing more and getting on that's going to last you a few years if you're into your festivals that much. I went through a stage of buying a cheap tent every year and by the time Reading came around I was fixing it nearly everyday. Saying that, I know one lad who bought a tesco tent for about £15 and it's been to about 10 festivals and is still going strong.

The HH (waterproof rating) of 1200mm does not inspire the greatests of confidence.

1000mm is technically waterproof. If the skin is pulled tight.

1500mm to 2000mm gives you protection with a bit to spare (and more forgiving on not being piched right).

It looks like it has an inner and outer, this is good as the outer keeps you waterproof, the inner stops condensation dripping on you, keeps insects out, and the space between them lets condesation drip onto the ground.

It looks like an inner first pitcher, this means you need to make sure that the outer skin is attached correctly, pulled tight and stays there. This may involve guy ropes which get slack and tripped over at festivals (and this means a daily check).

A tent that pitches the outside first and has the inner hanging down in the inside does all that work for you as a by product of the tention of the bent poles in the sleeves of the outer skin. When it comes to the domes/igloos that pitch outside first, they are literally a design that once picthed, needs no more work!

So me being a lazy so-and-so prefer the pitch-outer-first domes and igloos

If you go for it, before the festival, find a place to pitch it over the weekend, get a bottle of fabrisil (waterproofing agent for tent fabric) or simmilar and give it a good going over and let it dry overnight, this will make sure it will keep you dry.

my mate's looking at getting that one too. i 'wombled' an abandoned pro-action tent after the mudbath of 07. it was bone dry inside. it's since done one other wet muddy connect festival with no leaks or issues. i think it's very much a gamble with them as i've heard some horror stories and some folks have never had a problem. if you have a garden, waterproof it and leave it pitched for a few nights to see if it develops any problems before trusting it.

If you're anywhere near one of their stores I'd check out Decathlon (Decathlon Website). They are just as cheap and much better quality. They also have a North Face Tadpole for £80 which is an absolute steal and is as good quality as you can get, however much you spend - that should last you forever rather than having to buy a new tent every year.

[EDIT] Just noticed you're after a 4 man. Id still get either one £50 Decathlon tent or two £25 Decathlon tents over the Argos one any day. Any amount of spray will not keep out heavy rain. Although you'll be needing it more as a sun shelter as it will not rain.

We had a tent from argos that withstood the storms of 2005 and didnt leak - not sure of the hydro-whatnot-head though but it was a fairly cheap tent. Id say that 4 person tents really only hold 2 people comfortably. ours was a 4 person and it was fine for 2 of us and our rucksacks but would have been a squeeze for a third and their rucksack. I think I did spray it with some waterproofing spray beforehand so this probs helped in the rain.

we've got a vango tent now and Im happier that we paid a bit more for more room and we can stand up in it too which is miles better. go outdoors have some good priced tents.

If you buy the tent, then buy some Nikwax.. Clicky

AVOID FABSIL at all costs as it WILL dissolve the glue on the taped seams as it is solvent based !! I recked my Glast 10 year old tent using fabsil.. gutted..

I had this tent last year and I thought it was great, it stood up to a couple of rainy festivals and it didn't leak at all! One of the festivals was really heavy rain and strong winds too.

Also this tent has loads of space and it is pretty easy to erect. I bought another Argos tent for this year and i'm pretty confident it will be ok.

i'm struggling a little with my tent choice. 4 of us will be staying in it, so probably need a 6 man at least... we'd like at least two rooms, one for sleeping and smoking and one for our muddy gear.

i'ev got my eye on this one from netto which is on special offer, but there aren't any details about the h.head so not sure... http://viewer.zmags.com/showmag.php?mid=wdhfts#/page0/

anyone got any recommendations?
