bubbsio
If you mean when he said "the grief loving scousers want to have a pity fest"; that's how it comes accross to me and many others as well. Someone made a post about buying the sun, and within minutes that turns into (in your words) "a load of people getting upset about hillsborough". Funkfarley
Its all a bit lord of the flies this. Its actually quite a disgusting read and to think that some people out there can comment on our fair city in such a derogatory makes me sick. I dont boycott the Sun but I understand why people do, I dont grieve for those at Hillsborough but I remember being 9 years old at a party and seeing it unfold on the TV and the thoughts of that day upset me. Just like seeing clips of Zeebrugge and Piper Alpha and more recently the Tsunami....events that have a profound effect. Football is a game of passion and consequently Hillsborough is also part of that. This is NOT a "My grief is greater than your grief" argument. How petty. Its almost a "there are always people worse off than you" and I hate that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but those who are just out to bait others - thats disgusting behaviour. Many scores of people in Liverpool are hurt and its because we are a small city. Football is central because we have two very good teams (Yeah yeah - no smart arse comments please) for what is in the grand scheme of things a small city. Reds and Blues live together and most eat, sleep and breathe football. I know friends of friends who were killed / affected directly by Hillsborough and I dont know many people in Liverpool who weren't affected in one way or another. We are not a City of Grief - how pathetic. We just hate people who have no concept of how offensive the whole thing has become. Scousers are passionate and trust me, if it ever came to it, you would want them on your side cos they are forever true to what they believe in. It saddens me that poor Pear_cider started a thread in good faith and it has basically been Hijacked by snotty and derogatory joking and remarks. scouseLee
Pardon my ignorance and correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Hillsbrough caused by Liverpool supporters running though a door into the stadium in order to get in without paying? And wasn''t Heysel a least partly caused by the Liverpool fans who went on a rampage? If I'm wrong then I apologise but if that is the case, there might just be some people much closer to home more deserving of Scousers' vitriol than people who have voiced opinions on a website set up to discuss music festivals or chosed to but a certain paper in order to get some cheap booze. scaryclaireyfairy
In my eyes i dont really think it matters what club it happens to, a thing like this should never be forgotten and im up for anyone to stick by what they beleive it. I dont think it is a topic that should be used to try and score cheap points over a city.

Funkfarley
Your last sentence is pretty much what I said first of all in answer to the hi-jacking of the thread by a load of posters who wanted to turn it into a personal agenda. There are other tragedies, they all affect different people, and yes I can remember it clear as day, but I didnt bring it up. I was asking for some perspective! let's 'ave it!!!
If they're anything like the bars around here then they'll hide the festival strength amongst the others and it's luck of the draw. Luckily I know the barstaff in the place that sells it here so she always sorts me out the festival strength.

bubbsio
I know, I know, I wasn't making a dig at you personally because everyone here is to blame in one way or another for continuing this in the vein in which it was NOT intended. I think now everyone has said their piece we all know where we stand with each other and we should get back to cider...lets-ave-it tried and I think we should all follow suit. scouseLee
a pleasure. you should be ashamed of yourself. it costs you nothing to show compassion. to lack it costs you your dignity. hillsborough may have been 20 years ago, but even i know what it means today and i'm 19 years old. there is absolutely no way you can justify making (what i would consider to be) offhand and trivialising remarks about what happened that day. it is always going to be a big deal and if it has effected you so little that you can say things like that. then perhaps you should question whether or not you are in a position to pass judgement on it at all. edit: but fair play for not continuing to argue your point. i am still a bit annoyed tho.
