Is this tent suitable?

it could be a bit more waterproof but if its £100 reduced from £200 then you can afford a can of fabsil :D

it should be fine.

make sure you have a couple of practice runs putting it up in the garden before you go to make sure you know how it goes up and to make sure all the poles, pegs, etc. are in it.

It looks ok to me.

Apart from the weight of it. 8.3Kg is a lot when you take into account what else your carrying. However if you travelling as a party then you could share the load.

i got this tent for 12quid of ebay + postage

it had nothing wrong with it and it was unused.

It weighs a ton and the poles are wobbly as shit so is not worth 100 but for 12 you cant go wrong. It is MASSIVE though and has a good middle bit for bags and other crap

this tent has quite wide compartments and could fit 2 more easily than most. They are quite wide as well as long. If you put your bags in the centre bit you could fit two in one of the and the other 2 people in the rest

Don't buy tents from tentastic, they are terrible. If you do a bit of research around the subject at say ukcampsite.co.uk (in particular http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/preview.asp?id=506 or the forum is quite useful) there are a lot of people who have had tents that have just ripped let alone not being waterproof. I would also avoid the "rage" and "leben" brands. They are all over ebay and they seem pretty crap. You may get lucky and get a good cheap rage or leben one but it's a bit of a risk.

Its better biding your time on ebay for a true bargain, I managed to get a good brand (sunncamp) tent that retailed at £180 (this was the actual price rather than some farcical made up RRP) but I bought it for £65 inc P and P. Its 8 man and can easily fit 6 plus loads of bags.

I did a lot of reading up on the subject because didnt have that much cash last year and I found that the "tenting community" are actually rather snooty about tents and that last years stock go out of fashion v quickly so you should try and get last seasons model if you can, or get a good name brand that is 2nd hand, someone like Gelert or Vango.

Tentastic are absoloute shit. Caused me no end of problems this time last year.

Bought a pop up tent and took the money out of my account. A month later no tent so I rang up they were saying they had none in stock! So I had to get a refund in the end. So much effort for nothing.

What does everyone think of this tent? There's going to be 3 of us sleeping in it so it will have to be 2 people in one of the compartments. I cant really afford a lot and this looks pretty cheap and cheerful. 1500mm head seems reasonable for the price. Is 6kg heavy to carry? We're getting the boat from Jersey to Portsmouth than a train to castle cary so we'll have quite a bit of carrying to do! There is a 6 man version of the tent for just 10 quid more but that one is 9.6kg
