Pennards

I here a lot of talk on here about Pennards being the best campsite at the festival. This is my first Glasto and it sounds very much like the kind of place I'm going to be wanting to camp so let's making this thread about all things Pennards. Pictures, memories, whatever you like. Sharing is good.

One question though, me and my friend aren't arriving until late morning/early afternoon on wednesday - will Pennards be full by then?

One tip about Pennards, never, ever camp at the bottom, due to the rain that CAN build up in this area (regardless of the drainage and toilets....).

Other than that, I have always found it an amazing place to camp and have the same spot every year, you shouldn't have any problems getting a nice space in the afternoon

It's my favourite place to camp. Easy reach to everything important. Unless you're the type of person who likes to camp by the main stage and never leave your tent all weekend, I'd recommend it.

4am Thursday morning 2005 coming back from the stone circle (all my group had either gone to bed or disappeared). Couple of guys were saying good morning to everyone walking past. I joined them and spent the next few hours being uber friendly to everyone walking past - some people reciprocated others ignored us. It was a lovely day (the rain started on the Friday). Some bloke came along wearing an army coat. He had no tent or sleeping bag, and ended up buying the mickey mouse tie that one of the 'greeters' was wearing.

Really fun time, that can't be condensed into a couple of sentences.

The next morning (Friday), I remember a few people in our camp huddled under the gazebo as the rain lashed down listening to the radio for updates. Our tents thankfully stayed dry, and the blitz spirit kept us chipper that weekend.

It's so-so...

I was always a Pennards devotee, but last year we got the train down, and the bus from Bristol. As we'd slightly overpacked we decided to camp on the hill to the right of the PGA, up past VG6, in about the most northerly corner of the festival, and it was just as good.

I think as long as you camp a decent distance away from the main stages, the sites are much of a muchness.

We're driving again this year, and with PGD almost exactly halfway between the two sites, I must admit to being torn, but will probably go north again.

The views at night weren't bad either:

I've camped in roughly the same spot on Pennards Hill for the past 6 Glasto's. My mates are trying to tease me away and camp by the pyramid stage.

I know I love Pennards but I can't quite work out why. I'm scared I won't like camping by the Pyramid Stage! But what could be wrong? Surely the view is great.

Oh I just don't know.

pennards is where we'll be heading this year. it's my first festival but i'll be with two guys who've camped in pennards before. they've assured me it's the best place to camp. ;)

is there somewhere nearby (within crawling distance) for early morning breakfast and late night munchies?

Top of the hill there's a great Cafe tent for the morning/last thing at night hot drinks and chill with a nice view. Then there's a 24 breakfast bar - essential - towards the bottom of the hill. Also cash points, toilets and very good camp stewards within very short distances.
