hi there i would just like to say that this years line up is a bit of a let down in my opinion.

When organizers announced it was to be a 3 day event i thought 'YES, GET IN...

now what looks to be the line up in full has disappointed me slightly.

First of all, only 2 acts on the main stage on the friday and the other 2 main arensa not open??

Second mylo and lcd soundsystem AND cagedbaby playing dj sets TWICE at the festival... come on thats pish in my eyes. Did they get a special offer on the acts BUY 1 GET 1 FREE???

Third is a matter of opinion, i just dont think the line up is that strong as a whole. If i hadnt already bought my ticket i wouldn not be attending.

In all fairness in the first year that T went 3 days there was only the Main Stage open with 4 acts and cost at least £20 more. It also took T 13 years to go to a 3 day (well 2 and a half) it's took Rockness only 2.

Having acts playing twice happened a few times last year as well. I see this only as a good thing. It means less clashes as you have two chances of seeing some acts. It also means the acts themselves can try out different things with there two sets, it's not like they'll be playing the same set twice!

In my opinion it's an excellent line up which I'm more than happy with.

Hopefully it will be sucessful and people will have faith in the festival so it will keep growing in the future.

For me Rockness is not just about the acts. Atmosphere, the setting and little things like the Rizla bus playing into the wee hours of the morning should be considered. That and the fact 2 of my favourite festival moments ever - Daftpunk and Graeme Park - took place at Rockness make it my personal favourite. If I knew my top 5 acts ever were playing T in the Park I would still choose Rockness over it even if I did know the lineup.

As has been said it took T 13 years to change to the 2 and a half day set up. When it did it had 15 acts on the Friday and never had all its main stages open(still doesn't), Rockness has 19 acts and only took 2 years. The Nesstival area also opens at 1pm on the Friday. There are 95 acts playing so far + say 5 for the 'Go North Black Isle Bar', I'd also expect to see maybe 10 or so more around the site on Saturday and Sunday(efestivals has 4 'TBC' that don't appear on the Rockness website and 1 'SR'). I reckon we will get 110-120 acts by the time the festival arrives.

As to doubles, there are 5 acts playing in some capacity twice. They are Cagedbaby, Super Furry Animals, Mylo, Heavenly Jukebox and James Murphy & Pat Mahoney. I can see how some people might be a bit put off by that but it's quite common at a lot of festivals to have doubles but as has been said again the chances are they will play completely different stuff. It doesn't really bother me. Just don't go see them twice :D

The line-up, well I preferred last years but that’s because they had pretty much what gets played by me day in, day out. Look at it this way though, last year I went to Glastonbury and it has 1000 acts. I'd say 75% of that I had never heard of or never listened to, I walked around the site with not a clue about who to see so I just walked into tents randomly and found some ace stuff! If you can't find something you enjoy at a festival, even if you haven't heard of it well your a very boring, blinkered human being :D there is a lot more to festivals than your favourite acts and some of my fondest memories of festivals have nothing to do with the entertainment the site provides :D

I'm not sure why people always want to use TITP as an example to make Rockness appear better. If you are doing that and comparing then you could ask how many Headliners does Rockness have that aren't playing a festival in the UK this year and therefore what is so special about the line up? TITP has got it right for years and plenty of acts to please everyone which is the problem with Rockness just now. Not enough acts and not a big enough festival with numerous stages that acts playing twice can really be justified.

I'd say Rockness is better because it is new and fresh and the people are friendlier but it wont stay like this forever as it gets bigger and more people go that are TITP regulars.

Also, The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx have been touring lately and a lot of people have seen them in the last 12 months so I can understand why people might not be overly excited by the line up.

However, there are a lot people, including myself that buy their ticket prior to the full line up being announced because of the festival, past experience, location, people etc and then we sit and wait for the acts to be confirmed and hopefully get excited by each of them. Not really happened this year apart from Orbital and I think thats the reason people are complaining about a number of things as had been expecting more.

Suppose I should end where this post started, I do think its worth the money, £140 isn't a lot for a festival now. Oh and my ticket just arrived this morning so get in there.

The only complaint I've got is Friday's main stage. Main stage arena opens at 6.30 but there's going to be no acts on it for a couple of hours if there's only two acts.

Ironic that two of the best acts IMHO playing the whole weekend are both on Friday night's main stage.

I've got a few complaints about this year's festival - but overall I'm pleased with the line up and I still regard Rock Ness as the best festival in Britain (cos of location and atmosphere).

I think people are bein a bit unfair criticising the Friday line-up this year. Last year the campsite opened on the Friday but there was NO music at all so we've come a long way with a main stage and Soma dance tent! :)

My main issues are lack of communication from organisers about the line up....no updates.....Kissy's not playin/Kissy is playin.....etc.

Also pretty disappointed in the Ed Banger tent line-up. Four DJ's for the entire day will be sh*t.......and it's not even the best acts from that label that will be playin either!? We all got excited when we realised there was gonna be an Ed Banger tent - but what's the point when their best acts won't even be there?! I know some people will still be pissin their pants when Busy P drops a Justice tune.....but it won't really do it for me.

Last complaint is the ticket price. Pretty sure my 2007 ticket was £100+£8 booking fee. I happily paid that cos I would have even sold my granny's favourite slippers to see Daft Punk.

This year it's up to £139 + booking fee. Big jump!!

To finish on a positive note, i still reckon it will be one of the best weekends of the year. :D

the lineup this year is really good imo, erol alkan, soulwax, crookers... and prodigy obv.

the main thing that I HATE about rockness is that the organisers dont really seem to care if anyone wants go to (if that makes sense lol) with so much competition from other festivals this year and with rockness being in quite a remote location, you think they would make more of an effort to advertise. nearly every day festivals are announcing new acts and rockness leaves it for months at a time with no sort of announcment atall! people are obv goin to lose interest very easily, espesh if they havent been before.

1.A lot of people in Scotland use T as the 'standard' for festivals, Rockness being the only other festival in Scotland that's biggish is going to be compared.

2.How many headliners does T, V, Reading & Leeds etc etc etc etc have that aren't playing at other festivals or have played in the past year? By that logic no festivals have 'special' line ups. The only 1 offs I can think of are Radiohead and Bruce Springsteen.

3.TITP has had a monopoly on the festival scene in Scotland for years. Also it has only sold out the last 4 years, this year was slower for ticket sales than previous years.

4.See point 2. Acts that play festivals tend to be doing the rounds, I know a lot of people who go to no gigs and only a couple festivals a year.

5.They won't extend/change the site until it sells out.

6.If you watch these boards then you should have seen that from Glastonbury down, a lot of the excitement and talk has been about The Prodigy. They seem to be the thing to see just now.

lol it's quite funny on here this year, because every festival has been severly moaned about! Nobody seems happy this year :D
