paulo999
Taking a DSLR, 24-70, and either 70-200 or 120-300 lenses. Want a photo backpack that is half photo kit layout and half daypack (for poncho, water, beers etc.). Recommendations for such a backpack? Rather pay more for good protection than save money and potentially suffer damage from knocks etc. cheers Edited May 25, 2009 by paulo999
r0cky
I've gone round and round in circles re photo bags!
scmusic
I have been tempted by those split daypack/photo pack things but share the concern that it would be a PITA to get things out in a hurry... ... then again, once my camera is out it means I am in "photo mode" and it tends to stay out / around my neck for a while. And I always carry a compact camera for backups or when I put the proper camera away or in the lockups. Compact camera can do the spontaneous stuff if the bigger camera is not to hand. paulo999
I think I'll go el Cheapo on the mid- and long-range options, more for weight's sake than anything else.
krisskross
i have a crumpler shoulder bag and pretty sure a 70-200 would fit in fine.
xploit
Right, since this thread started I have been debating on getting a DSLR back again and getting rid of my TZ4 - I havent got the greatest of budgets, If I were to get a DSLR what would you recommend on a budget?... </waffle>
scmusic
Know what you mean. The 70-200 is an extravagance... the DOF is irresistible though Edited May 25, 2009 by scmusic

paulo999
GAH! Don't make me take the big guns! I did have a thought - briefly - about bringing the full kit, Lee filters, massive tripod, etc and actually documenting the festival properly. Could come away with some utterly glorious shots, and feel immensely satisfied with my photography... - then I remembered I actually want to PARTICIPATE as well. Maybe do something worthy of someone else taking pictures of me! Edited to say: the other factor is, if I walk out with full kit (wide angles and telephotos) I tend to want to have a camera body on each end - and that's a bridge too far for Glasto, I think. Maybe in a few years when I stay sober throughout the festival...
tonyonekenobi
This is the camera I'm taking... I hope the Boss is ok about standing still for 30 minutes while I get a pic....
Carolinematt
I've been debating whether to take my D60 But after reading this thread I've decided to take the plunge and take it with me Going to take my 70-200mm and my 18-55mm kit lens. (unless I win the pools/lottery) all packed into my crumpler pretty boy shoulder bag. Got my other half to carry the rest of our stuff
Storm_NL
For camera bags (or indeed any other bag), I'd go with Crumpler (I'm taking my Muffin Top). http://www.crumpler.co.uk/ Choose from a range of styles... and most of the styles are available in different capacities, so you can make a choice based on your size of camera, how many lenses and bits and pieces you're taking with you, and if you also want it to be dual-purpose (ie room for beer). Not just camera stuff either... I'm trying to "retire" my various other bags faster, so I can upgrade to Crumplers.... (looking forward to trying out my new Belt Bitch at Glasto... )
pogal
I'm having great difficulty deciding what camera gear to take this year. I've pretty much settled on leaving my Nikon D300 at home because it's too big, so I'm going to take my D40 instead. Last year I took the kit lens but this year I think I'm going to brave it and take my 18-200 superzoom and Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Added to that, I'm really tempted to hire a wide angle for the week. I think the flashes can stay at home. Now I just need to decide on a bag. Decisions, decisions. Anyone in the same boat as me?
_-J-_
I'll be taking mine this year, just looking for a more accesible bag at the moment. Also going to sort out insurance to make sure its covered incase anything happens to it! Taking a D40 with a 18-55 and 55-200, hoping to get some cool shots. Tommy
Will either be taking the D40 or D90, depending on if Paul's bought the D40 by then, along with a 17-70mm and a 70-200mm. May treat myself to a Gorillapod before the fest too. I saw someone using one last year and the pics they were getting were awesome.

poddingtonpea
i'v just bought a nikon d90, bit scared of taking it to be honest, would NEVER forgive myself if it got stolen or lost. also got an oldish fuji S2, but its semi broken (long story) so wouldn't get as good shots, also means bringing my only lens, a 17-70 or something sigma.... hmmm... kerplunk
yep, a Nikon D40 and 18/200VR and 35mm/f1.8. If the weather's nice (sure it will be!) it'll be loose on my shoulder just about all the time with a small lowpro lens bag on my belt which I can just about squeeze the 18-200 into while I'm using the 35mm (which probably won't be that often tbh). If the weather's bad I'll put a coat on, and, as per every year since I've been going - I'm thinking about taking a tripod
lofichic
I'm definitely taking my D40. I had this conversation with my mother the first year I took it (2007), and as she wisely pointed out, "What's the point in having it if you don't use it...". There is so much to take photos of at Glasto that I'd feel silly not to. I'll take two lenses, a 55-200 and then one of my others. I was going to take a nice long range lense like last year but now people are talking about hiring wide angles, I'm tempted... I'll be leaving the flash at home though - just not enough opportunity to use it to make it worth the extra weight. It'll all be wrapped up in a lovely Crumpler bag. It survived 2007 covered in mud on the outside without a dot on the inside, great to just grab the camera out of and plenty of room for bits and bobs. I also make the people I'm with carry it if it's getting heavy - hey, they're getting the photos too Unfortunately, I'm just not a very good photographer, haha, so I might spend the next couple of weeks trying to get a bit better for some classy festi shots. I'm going to lash it in the lockups for a bit though, because I do sometimes feel like I'm not participating as much as I'd like to.
