xploit
As I have said before in this thread, I currently have a Lumix TZ4 but really miss my DSLR camera - should I buy one for Glasto and sell my TZ4 or will it do? Are compacts any good at Glasto? Which DSLR is cheap but of a good enough quality? HELP!!!!
scmusic
These days, for the most part - it ain't the camera, it's the lens. You can stick a Canon pro L lens on a £350 camera and get a pretty darn good picture. You can take a £2500 semi-pro body and put a crappy kit lens on it and voila - mediocrity. Most discussions on this thread are about some compromise of the above with portability and risk. All that being said, the entry level Canons (500D/1000D) and Nikons (D5000) take better pictures, even with the kit lens, than a lot of the enthusiast-level ones would have just a few years ago. They're not build to take a pounding or be out in the rain though, so you'd have to be gentle with them.

Storm_NL
because theyre built like tanks. serious waterproofing, tons of padding, seriously strong strap. You dont have to worry bout drunken fools spilling their pint over you, is superb.
Storm_NL
i'v just bought a nikon d90, bit scared of taking it to be honest, would NEVER forgive myself if it got stolen or lost. also got an oldish fuji S2, but its semi broken (long story) so wouldn't get as good shots, also means bringing my only lens, a 17-70 or something sigma.... hmmm... Storm_NL
My main 'investment' these days is camera bags. I have a renewed interest in Crumpler at the moment, thanks to Storm!
r0cky
Yes.. they're quite flat and unassuming... but I imagine there is a sever temptation to stuff it full of all and sundry. If I get some free time this weekend, I might experiment. After all, it's not as if it's going to break! Lol...
theleedslads
I got a 400D last year and never used a DSLR camera before and took some fantastic shots at Glastonbury! I nearly always use toe 10-22mm lens, its fantastic http://www.flickr.com/photos/37953087@N04/ Check the link above for 10-22mm lens pics (only the monochrome pics have had photoshop treatment and wernt even shot in RAW format - as im such an amateur!) Sadly my 400D died a few weeks ago but now have a 50D, i still miss my 400D though! Im definatley taking the 50D this year ... and shooting in RAW! Storm_NL
Small B.B. just arrived, it's fantastic, but very small, it's going back. The medium one should be here in a day or so. Even though I measured out the sizes from the description, it's not until you have them in your hands you can get a feel for their size! I might exchange the small one for the large. After glasto, I'm going to take a look at their messenger bags again!
Harrow Tyke
I'm having great difficulty deciding what camera gear to take this year. I've pretty much settled on leaving my Nikon D300 at home because it's too big, so I'm going to take my D40 instead. Last year I took the kit lens but this year I think I'm going to brave it and take my 18-200 superzoom and Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Added to that, I'm really tempted to hire a wide angle for the week. I think the flashes can stay at home. Now I just need to decide on a bag. Decisions, decisions. Anyone in the same boat as me?

Pipkins
I'm rather concerned to hear of people taking their Nikons to Glastonbury! Aren't you even the slightest bit embarrassed? I'll be taking my superb Canon 40D, 50mm prime, and, fingers crossed, I may have treated myself to a 70-200 L USM IS!

dirtysteve
I would love to take my Canon 1Ds Mk 2 but I know I'm going to get so wrecked that I daren't risk it, not with several thousand pounds worth of gear anyway. I did toy with the idea of taking my Mamiya RZ67 and shooting some medium format film but, again, I'll likely break it or lose it. Probably going to take my 35mm OM4Ti with a couple of nice lenses and shoot B&W film all weekend. risking about £600 worth of kit, but it'll be worth it if it survives and i can bring home half a dozen rolls of film to develop. It is built like a tank, so unless I do something really daft with it, should come home in one piece.
coolethan
Dont forget you can put it in the lock-ups chappy! I am taking my little Sony DSC H3. I took it last year and got some great shots but without having to lug a huge thing around. I am thinking of getting a couple of new lenses for it though. StormCrow
Well after a day out with my new 17-55 + new Fastpack 350 I've made a few refinements as to what I'm taking. My D300+ battery grip plus 17-55 is a fri**in ton!!!! so for my neck's sake I'm going to leave the battery grip behind. The Fastpack 350 is a great bag I had my D300 + Grip +70-300 +10-20 + 16-85mm + extension tubes in the camera section also had my Sigma 150mm in its case and a rolled up poncho in the top compartment with lots of room to spare. The bag was comfy as it has a chest strap and waist strap my only criticism is its too big for walking around glastonbury all day also the size just encourages me to carry more stuff than I really need. As a result of this I've just bought the Fastpack 200 which arrived today and it looks absolutely ideal. Camera compartment is only slightly smaller than the 350 it has a much smaller profile though as it doesn't have a compartment for a laptop. There is no chest strap or waist strap but I've sorted that by ordering some clips from ebay which with some webbing will make a great chest strap. http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Handy-Straps...634Q2ec0Q2em322 Anyone looking at getting a new camera bag should have a look at this site it has some very helpful reviews http://www.cambags.com/ Edited May 27, 2009 by StormCrow
xploit
instead of a 350d i have today been looking at a sony a300 - still uncertain if i should get a dslr and sell my TZ4 or not ARRGGHHHHH!! what a decision...
r0cky
Cambags is a great site, wasted many hours on there looking at different bags! I really wish Lowepro would fit a chest-strap to those other FastPacks. Shame that they only fit it to the 350. I'm going to mod mine one day, maybe try and sew one on.
