Anyone taking a DSLR this year?

I ordered a Fastpack 350 today so I'll see if I get on with it. If any of you Crumpler shills end up passing the cow camp (Dance Field, near the railway track, under the "Go Cows" flag), drop in and show me the error of my ways but I'm currently not convinced. :D

Also reserved a Sigma 10-20 to hire for the festival.

Edit: as I've already described my camera gear and where I'm camping, I'll also say that I won't be leaving my camera unattended at the camp so any thieving lurkers don't need to bother looking for it.

We took ours 2 years ago, loved the shots it produced but I probably wouldn't again as it was fairly heavy to carry around all day and we didn't put it in the lock ups as we used it a lot - but I would say the CND lockups are fab so thats always an option :D

Probably going to leave my D40 at home this year. I'll most likely just take my fairly decent compact camera. Much lighter/smaller to carry around and won't be so worried about breaking/losing it as it's a lot cheaper than my SLR :)

Looking at camera bags now, only have a back pack one at the moment and want something with quick and easy access to grab that spur of the moment shot. How much protection do these bags offer, enough when your in a crowd near the front of the pyramid, or is it better to sit behind the barrier. I'll be getting insurance but like to know that the bag will protect and perhapps be waterproof?

Also people mention hiring glass, where can this be done?

My Crumpler has been out in a torrential downpour with no problems.

It's pulled and yanked about.. and let's face it, it's not going to tear.

It's nicely padded and has enough rigidity to fend off modest attack.

However, if you were to drop it in a mosh pit, and several people with large boots then proceeded to stamp on it, I'm not sure how the camera might fare... :D

So these Crumplers are waterproof as is? None of that raincover lark like Lowepro, which you have to pull out and fit the fiddly thing if it rains? I've always wondered why they don't just make bags inherently waterproof .

I returned the small B.B. a few days ago, still awaiting the Medium and Large. Hopefully that has the standard wonderful Crumpler waterproofness?

After hours of searching for the perfect half andf half photo backpack I realise that they simply don't exist for a large DSLR with long lenses and everything else you need at a festival for the day. A couple of Crumpler and a couple of the Kata ones looked promising but simply don't have the space required.

So I've decided. Getting a ThinkTank Digital Holster 50 & harness to house the Nikon + 70-200 or 24-70. Looks like the best bet for a large DSLR with long lens and being ready to shoot.

Now I just need to find a decent backpack (not a photo specific model) to carry spare lenses (in their padded cases), couple of beers, poncho, water bottle etc.
