Pyramid Line Up 2009

Im amazed at how biased the line up is towards the Pyramid this year. Never seen so few dips in quality in the last 5 years. At first glance anyway it seems that certainly the JW and possibly the Other Stage have suffered as a result of the organisers jamming big acts into midday and early evening slots.

Im wondering is this anything to do with Festival Republic and a perceived notion that the festival has to have a single main-stage ethos? Last year I spent 80% of my time at Jazz World. This year i reckon 70%+ will be at the Pyramid... somehow that doesnt sit too well with me! The sound at the Pyramid is notoriously flakey for example.

Would be interested to hear from the vets on this board what their initial thoughts are on the quality of the main stage and how that effects the whole vibe of the weekend.

I dunno.. I'll certainly be at the Pyramid far more than I have in the past, but I don't think it's because the names are any bigger or that the acts on other stages are any less well known.

I think it's more that the Pyramid acts are just more to my taste this year. The other stages still have some really well known acts on. Avalon especially seems to have its most mainstream lineup ever.

I guess there are some must sees, the Saturday run of Tinariwen and EODM is good, then I'll probably be there for Nick Cave for certain, a lot higher than I usually plan for.

I'd say the Other is very strong this year though, even though I'm probably not going to be at it too much

...this year at the moment (* for definite)

Neil Young*

Regina Spektor*

Nick Cave*

Crosby, Stills & Nash (depending on clash with shlomo)

Fleet Foxes (depending on if clash with scott matthews)

Either Bruce/Madness (depending on which bon iver set I go to)

N.E.R.D (if they're confirmed)

...it's a ridiculous strong pyramid lineup in my opinion; well as incident says, more to my taste, and/or shows that will be fun and have a good atmosphere (eg. quo)

Come on!! Thats too short a statement to make.........You should personalise that more and have a bit of cop on to realise that Neil Young is a massive headliner.....You should really be saying "due to my personal taste in music fridays pyramid line up is possibly the worst in many years"........OK not your cup of tea, but you still have to understand that he is suitable to headline Glasto...........Take Bruce for example...........Im not a fan........just never got into his music..........he does not offend me, but I just dont listen to him.........I probably wont go to see him (depends), but I still fully get the fact that he is a massive act with a massive following and is very much deserving of his headline status.............

The people who are playing on the pyramid stage this year are Iconic legends (well most of them) and really deserve their slots. Take nick cave and the bad seeds, he has a cult following and is a critically acclaimed singer song writer. The Specials and Madness, were icons in the Ska Revival movement. Tinariwen have made the best rock album I have heared in years. Bruce Springsteen has a cult following and literally wrote the rock rulebook, Neil Young has a cult following and really deserves his place on the bill.

ill be avoiding the retirement stage this year

Jazz World does look dissapointing this year, it's my favourites stage and my best memories of last year where there. But then again the year before I spent more time in the Dance Village.

On my initial short-list (ignoring clashes etc) these are the stats:

Friday

Pyramid: 1

Other: 3

John peel: 1

Jazz World: 1

Acoustic: 2

The Park: 1

Queens head: 3

East Dance: 2

West Dance: 1

Avalon: 3

Saturday

Pyramid: 3

Other: 1

John Peel: 4

Jazz World: 0

Acoustic: 1

The Park: 1

Queens Head: 2

East Dance: 1

West Dance: 2

Avalon: 3

Sunday:

Pyramid: 6

Other: 5

John Peel: 3

Jazz World: 1

Acoustic: 0

The Park: 0

Queens Head: 2

East Dance: 2

West Dance: 0

Avalon: 1

Only 2 acts on the Jazz World I particularly want to see all weekend!

Don't think I'll hang around the pyramid for 6 acts on Sunday though!

I've onyl ever seen 2 or 3 acts at the pyramis, spread out over the 5 times I've been, certainly in the early 90s, I went 3 times and only saw one act (Johnny Cash)

this year, there's more I want to see at the pyramid, but I think the other stage line up is really ropey with mediocre bands playing frar higher than they deserve, ting tings and glasvegas for example have only one album each but are second headliners.

If I compare that to the early 93-95, the bands on that time on the other stage had, if I remember right, a bigger back catalogue to play.

I can't see the logic with the Other stage bookings/order of play, tbh.

This has made me really f**king angry, so what if they are old bands, so what if they are bands not with the current times, just because the bands are not your favorite current indie band doesn't mean they dont deserve a place on the pyramid stage, and it certainly doesn't mean you have the right to write a childish comeback like that. At least it's not a boring, predictable line up like T in the park, V fest or reading and leeds.

Cheers,

everything you have said is purely based on your opinion. my opinion is that the lineup for the pyramid is pretty dire, tom jones, status quo, nick cave, lily allen, bjorn again, the specials and thats without even mentioning Mr Born in the USA. i would definately say it is incredibly boring on the pyramid this year.
