Pyramid Line Up 2009

If anything, I think this thread shows that the line up is really quite diverse this year and has a whole host of amazing acts that appeal to a wide range of Glasto goers. I'm not a fan of most of the stuff on the Other stage this year, for example, when normally its one of the main stages I'm at - however, there is stuff around the rest of the site that I'm really excited about. Likewise, Jazzworld hasn't quite the same line up I'm used to - but theres loads more at Avalon, Acoustic etc that I'm interested in.

I've not heard a lot of the acts on Jazz, but I've heard of them and I know they're esteemed in their areas. I've heard a lot of the Other stage acts and they're not my thing, but I know they're well enjoyed and high up in the fields that they play in (not the FIELD itself :))

A great line up imho, even judging by the stuff I'm not into. Now to sort out the Acoustic/Pyramid/Jazzworld clash on Friday night... who do I see? Plus, The Specials AND Fairport clash?!! Aah so is Glasto life... :(

Tbh I think it's great that the pyramid stage has such an eclectic range of acts. Everyone goes on about how shit it is but how many major festivals would have the balls to put Amadou & Mariam, Tinariwen, Easy Star All Stars, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Tom Jones, Status Quo etc on the mainstage? None, that's how many.

I'd choose a diverse, interesting selection of mainstage acts over a lineup of all big name rock acts any day.

I've looked down on people who camp in front of the Pyramid all day. I always thought they were taking the easy way out. Maybe it's a sign that I'm getting old that the JW, JP and Park fields don't have that competitive edge that theyve had in the past.

:( @ myself.

To condense this thread, it basically depends on your personal taste in music! Some people may not want to go trekking round the site and will park in front of the pyramid, but I imagine they are in the minority. For me, I'm quite happy that the Pyramid doesn't have (imo) loads of great bands on because it gives me a chance to get around a bit more, explore the site, visit the different stages, experience the whole of Glastonbury. For me this festival is so much more than just the music and that's why I'm going. I can go to Leeds (I AM going to Leeds) to see more of the music I like, I'll catch up then, in the meantime I'm going to Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, not Glastonbury Music Festival.

The people who are playing on the pyramid stage this year are Iconic legends (well most of them) and really deserve their slots. Take nick cave and the bad seeds, he has a cult following and is a critically acclaimed singer song writer. The Specials and Madness, were icons in the Ska Revival movement. Tinariwen have made the best rock album I have heared in years. Bruce Springsteen has a cult following and literally wrote the rock rulebook, Neil Young has a cult following and really deserves his place on the bill.

This has made me really f**king angry, so what if they are old bands, so what if they are bands not with the current times, just because the bands are not your favorite current indie band doesn't mean they dont deserve a place on the pyramid stage, and it certainly doesn't mean you have the right to write a childish comeback like that. At least it's not a boring, predictable line up like T in the park, V fest or reading and leeds.

Cheers,
