The special atmosphere generated at Glastonbury festival itself is more important than the music going on - Why do people buy tickets before any bands have been announced if it was about x or y band -

Quite honestly I couldn't care who was announced but personally I am very pleased with

springsteen , quo, tap, rolf, blur etc - as for diversity there is so much going on elsewhere and whether your 16 or 60 you should find something to be interested in...

Even if your not into the music you can wander around for five days of something new - people watching,

comedy , arts, trash city after dark etc etc and still have a whale of a time;

Quite honestly my best memories come from spontanous moments and finding good bands you have never seen before or classic music you haven't listen to before such as John fogerty Jazzworld in 2007 it was ace and so much fun, and elsewhere the 'human jukebox' was hilarious

Just go with open mind and ears and come back happy I say

The only thing im dissapointed about is that i cant see Foals on the lineup list, but if they were there they would probably clash wiv someone anyway, so just aswell coz there are waaaaay too many clashes for my liking. Fab lineup IMO. :O

When I first studied the line-up I wasn't sure if I was happy or dissapointed (namely because I couldn't see a few of my faves who were rumoured to be playing) however the more I look at it the better it gets. I have just highlighted nearly 50 acts that I would be happy to see across all the stages - and some are still to be announced. Trying to filter them down into something managable is going to be a nightmare. Especially as I'm not one of these that races between stages as I prefer to pick a few must-sees per day and then whatever else happens, happens. How anyone can contemplate complaining about this line-up is beyond me....but it wouldn't be this forum if no-one did :O

"Good" line up = Bad year for seeing the rest of Glastonbury

"Bad" line up = Good year for seeing the rest of Glastonbury

Good and bad obviously being subjective, for me, this year looks like a good line-up, I'll be seeing a lot of bands on other and pyramid, but who knows, next year I might hate the line-up but equally be happy that I'll get to see more of the smaller stuff. As I've said elsewhere, I'm actually quite annoyed that there's so much that's going to take me away from the little parts I might have discovered.

I don't think he was dissappointed about the lineup being mainstream. I don't really get what you mean either, it has a lot of big bands playing yes but mainstream suggest this is negative. I wouldn't describe Neil Young as mainstream for example.

I'd say that Friday is the weakest day, yet these are all bands/artists I'd happily go and see on that day:

Neil Young

The Specials

Lily Allen

Fleet Foxes

Regina Spektor

Bjorn Again

The Whip

Bloc Party

Friendly Fires

The Streets

Hot 8 Brass Band

Doves

The Virgin

f**ked Up

General Fiasco

Ray Davies

Fairport Convention

Scott Matthews

Erol Alkan

Joe Goddard

Animal Collective

The Horrors

Golden Silvers

The Blockheads

British Sea Power

3 Daft Monkeys

The Big Pink

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip

There's a shitload of good acts each day - have a good look and you'll see a lot of bands/DJs/songwriters/artists that will be great to see.

Bring on Glasto!

Ok, any festival with Rolf Harris on the bill has my vote. :O

I can't see what all the complaining is about every year there is something wrong but we keep going back???? we buy the tickets before the line up is announced, why if we hate it so much each year???? BEACUSE IT'S GLASTONBURY and it's that best (5 day) weekend of the year

See you all soon

Not read this whoe thread but the OP was moaning about the lack of new/alternative bands. WTF?

Fight Like Apes

Friendly Fires

Maccabees

Little Boots

Metronomy

F**ked Up

VV Brown

Rumble Strips

Animal Collective

The Virgins

Gaslight Anthem

Hockey

Big Pink

White Lies

Low Anthem

First Aid Kit (love these)

Enter Shikari (hate these)

Brand New

Twisted Wheel

Micachu

All these plus the "big" boys of Kasabian, Franz, Bloc Party, Doherty, Maximo Park, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Doves, Glasvegas and early pioneers such as Echo and the Bunnymen and Blur would suggest to me that this line-up is pretty f**king awesome. Seriously, I cannot think of any festivals with such a diverse selection of new music to watch but then again what "new" is the OP referring to? Shall we ask Edith Bowman, Jo Whiley or that insufferable tit Grimmy?

I don't know why the hell people with narowly defined taste in music who are so bothered about the lineup would buy a ticket in the first place?

I like music from every genre old and new, I love discovering new bands, I love having a drunken singalong to some cheesy old act that I really shouldn't be singing a long to, I like a bit of culture, I like checking out bands I don't like - just in case they can convert me. In fact they'd have to work really hard to book 300 acts that I didn't like.

But why do people obsessed with headliners and limited range of musical taste not just buy tickets for a festival where they announce the lineup in advance, instead of wasting their money and coming on here bleating about it?

I'm not moaning about the lineup, it's my second glasto and it will be the best week of the year, however i disagree with what you say here. How many average 16-25 year olds(who aren't there) will see that Young, Springsteen and blur have headlined and feel that they must go to glastonbury next year?

I just think that glastonbury, in order to sell out every year and continue for many years, needs to give some (obv not all.. we don't want them) of the younger people who go to V/leeds etc a reason to come to glastonbury instead.
