V compared to Glastonbury

The only issue I have with some of these remarks is the likes of Bjorn Again, Tony Christie, Gabriella Cilmi, Dizzee Rascal, Joason Mraz, Paolo Nutini, The Script, Lady GaGa, Status Quo all playing the top two stages over the weekend - when V do this they are slated for being pop!!!!

Please note that I am not saying Glastonbury is worse than V - as stated in my previous post it's always going to be better than V because of the sheer size of the festival - but take the top two stages and there is very little difference in the pop/commercial aspect.

Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage is quite poor (bar the headliners) this year - but there's so much variety throughout the rest of the festival that no other festival could fairly compare, really.

I'm going to both Glasto and V this year. Have to admit that whilst I've found plenty of bands that I want to see at V; there's nothing that gets me really excited like most of the Glastonbury lineup - Blur, Springsteen, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fleet Foxes, The Big Pink, Fight Like Apes, Bon Iver....it's going to be incredible.

oh jesus not this old chesnut

as many have already have said u can't even compare V to glasto as glasto in total different league and no way is V better lineup (its one of the worst yet). i do realise u like the pop element from your posts but most of the bands at V are playing glasto anyway and there are some amazing bands on the smaller stages at Glasto its nuts....I'm not going btw as decided to go to Barcelona instead

Glastonbury - It might have more depth, but who's going to be able to see all of those bands anyway? V Festival just has a few big acts one after another on a huge stage with no messing about with about 12 other stages, as far as I know. I'd be much happier at V.

bunny glastonbury has been the same for many years on the top 2 stages, its always had a mixture of pop, indie, oldies. Is basically the part of glastonbury which is a mainstream festival and what the bbc pick up on.

But glastonbury is so vast it can do this, look how many stages you have at glastonbury compared to reading and v.

my advise to anyone whos going tog lasto for the first time this year is just explore glastonbury and not just stop at the main stages(thats what I did on my frst glasto). Also do not go home until you see a sunrise up the stone circle, and spend time up the jazz world stage drinking brothers cider for the afternoon.

Agree 100% - have been to Glasto twice and without doubt the best festival - no arguments!!!

But V cannot compete on this scale, so to compare who has the better line-up is really quite a pointless excerise - I was just pointing out that over the main stages (in my opinion) Glasto is poor.... however when looking down the line-up I can see (at a glance) Jamie T, Rumble Strips, Ray Davies, Dan Le Sac, Jarvis Cocker, Gaslight Anthem, Yoda, Badly Drawn Boy, Ladyhawke, Imelda May, Cold War Kids, Reverand and the Makers, Shut Up and Dance, Dodgy, Seth Lakeman...... however, you also have to accept that a lot of people who go to festivals aren't willing to roam about and will more than happily get a spot near the main stage and stay there.

In all fairness the problem with V, and pretty much all the other big festivals bar Glastonbury is the Nanny State atmosphere.

There's threads on all the forums about trying to get booze into the arena, problems getting served, the place practically shutting down at midnight etc etc.

I guess one of the reasons that most of the Glasto lot are critical is that we've never seen an "Arena". The place is one big arena with all the stages, areas AND campsites together inside the main perimeter. You can take your booze wherever you want and sit in front of the main stage with a crate if it takes your fancy. And this is all on a site that's over a mile and a half from one side to the other not including car parking.

Irrespective of the lineup I think it's this that really sticks in people's throats. The atmosphere is just sooooo much more relaxed and you don't feel you're being taken for every penny during the day, forced to buy overpriced beer and being told to go to bed like good little kids after the last band. Some of the best parts of Glasto are after the bands with all the other entertainment through the night.

Not trying to offend anyone or spoil their festival enjoyment because I loved V when I went as it was my first festival experience. The thing is that after seeing what Glasto had to offer it opened my eyes somewhat and i've not been back to V since.

Hey look festivals can only book bands that are willing to play for them & are also working that year.

Do you think Melvin Benn pleaded with Radiohead to play his festivals & tempted them with oodles of cash????

No they told melvin Benn they where prepared to play his festivals this year if he wanted them, knowing none of the festivals will turn them down.

The same with Oasis management probably said to V, Leeds & Glasto we are willing to headline a festival this year who is going to pay us the most cash???

Melvin Benn owns Mean Fiddler group which also owns lots of venues around the country, this gives him the chance to bag the best bands first, then bands want to play Glastonbury because of the exposure it gives them prime time on a Saturday night across the BBC network, then finally you have V which is left with the bits no one else wants!!!!

To say Glastonbury pyramid headliners are poor really needs to seroiously understand how festivals work, to get Springsteen is an absolute coup for them, possibly bigger than Jay Z last year.

People moaning about Lily Allan also need to understand that she is unfortunately one of the biggest selling artists this year, this makes her perfect festival fodder, she also some how, has street cred for going to Glastonbury every year since she was born with her father, who also used to hang around with Joe Strummer, which makes her elegible as being cool for any festival.

If you don't like V line up or any other festival then don't go, but please stop moaning about the lineup, you can't change it so put up or shut up!!!

Myself this will be my last V for a whilst, I am gonna do some European festivals from next year...

True...can't understand the argument some people are using that it doesn't matter if theres a huge gap between decent bands because they can get pissed with their mates etc...errr...thanks, but I get 51 other weeks a year to do that...what V's job is is to provide a decent soundtrack to the weekend...sorry, but Lilly Allen et al just don't do it...
