If you are with someone who doesn't like the same stuff as you but doesn't like going off on their own - just make some cast iron generic "meet up if we lose each other" arrangements right at the start of the weekend. Before the days of mobile phones we used to do "5 minutes either side of the hour at the meeting point". That is - if they don't turn up by 5 past, move on, they're in the middle of something and might be there the next hour. It gives a regular meeting time without tying either person to the meeting point indefinitely and wasting half the day.

Then, when someone's coming up you want to see, just hang behind a little for a few steps and fade into the crowd.

Hopefully they'll also have the sense to go & see who they want til your next meet time.

i love the varying responses...

last year i went with one person again...only difference was...we werent amazing friends, and had totally different tastes....differences was, i said see you later for a beer bout 830? she would say yeah, have a good day, we hugged, and came back with two different experiences, new friends, different stories.....we are actually able to talk about the festival for ages after telling our different stories/mistakes/ gems, which to be honest i quite prefer...

When they feel they have to start a whole thread on a public forums to complain about the acts you want to see at the festival, when them themselves are interested in an old australian guy who only had a couple of well known songs, and is a bit of a novelty act who people only go and see cus they actually feel a little embarrassed for him

Thankfully Srvman, there are people like your mate to go see acts like lady gaga and as such make a vital contribution to the diversity of the festival, one of the things that makes it so special. Whats so bizarre about Dizzee anyhow? I can very easily believe that could be someones highlight of the weekend.

At the end of the day, if you want people to go with you to see Rolf, maybe should have some more friends.

I go with my girlfriend who quite often doesn't want to see much of what I want. We had a bit an argument last year when I wanted to go up to the Park after Editors and chillout for the few hours before before Pete Doherty's set when she wanted to watch the Cribs and a few others. Thankfully for both of us, we also go with a few of my mates and her twin sister so even if we don't see eye to eye on things we can still go off and do our own thing. The funny thing is that after last years argument I ended up having the best time ever watching the secret Franz gig then Dizzy Rascal then Pete.

Get out there, explore and do your own thing, surely that's what its all about. Yes make some compromises, but really let him see what he wants you do your thing and when you meet up at the end of the day / next morning you'll have loads of stories to tell.

I would hate to be tied down, for me glasto is all about meeting new people and stumbling across whatever i stumble across. Last year i went alone and am doing the same thing this year, its fantastic. Nice to meet up with freinds at the campsite but really do your thing and enjoy it!!!:D

I'm in a similar boat, except I booked my ticket in a rush of spontaneity a couple of weeks ago, I'm tagging along with a guy I know from work and his gang (none of whom I have met)

So if the music/personality tastes vary too much over the 5 nights, please look out for a lonely newbie wandering the fields looking for friends!

Anyone else been Billy-No-Mates for Glasto before? :D
