Is there too much 'Dad-Rock' this year?

Have they got the balance wrong?

  1. 1. Are there too many heritage acts on in 2009?

One of my earliest memories was hitting soma saucepans to whatever you want by status quo when I was younger.

I love dad rock and am looking forward to that more then anything! (had a little spat with the missus last night when I cordially informed her that wild horses wouldn't be able to drag me to see Lady gaga, disco stick or no disco stick!)

I'm 26 and think it's a line up that shows a nice amount of variety. I also like the fact that as well as seeing the bands I'd watch any night of week at the local Academy, I can sample lots of stuff I probably wouldn't.

Not at all. I'm 21 and my favourite music is from the 60's. I don't think it matters how old you are, you either enjoy the music or you don't. Anyway, its only the pyramid stage that has a few older acts. There soooo many more modern day bands across the festival but you don't get older people complaining about that! There's definitley enough entertainment to keep everyone happy :)

Ditto - 21, and nope not too much 'dad rock', it's gonna be awesome, especially if we get sunny afternoons, might make a pyramid trip - not really done that for a couple of years!

no way....there's about 1000 acts in total over 50 stages at glasto* so when looked at it, the dad rock only takes a teensy tiny percentage of that.

You wouldn't get any arguments that there's too many dance acts or new bands would you?

I'm 25.

*probably double that for performances over the weekend, tho might be slightly smaller this year with no leftfield/jazz lounge etc.

I said yes (I'm 35) because I'm personally not interested in seeing Springsteen or Young.

But, I don't mind them being there - I'll be at another stage.

I didn't want to see The Who either. Nor Roger Waters. Nor Van Morrison.

Golden oldies have been a part of G for a long time.

Yes there does seem to be a fair amount of dad rock this year, there always is! I'm 49 and i'll be in the Dance Village most of the time, but i might check out Neil Young cos at least he still has some sorta edge to him unlike the hordes of identikit indie bands....no one complains that 'theres too many crappy indie kid rock bands' do they?

Good music IS timeless, i dont expect even half the bands on will still be here in 20 or 30 years cos they're utterly forgetful - 1 or 2 amusingly catchy singles do not a career make!

Stuff Brucie baby cos Deadmau5 and Yoda ftw!

Dad rock is quite a good term - I'm giggling just thinking about it. There is quite a lot of "Dad rock" at Glasto this year but then Glastonbury is the kind of event that can get away with it. Regardless of your age, good music is good music.

I can't say that I get too excited about Bruce's music but I have heard that his live sets are the stuff of legends... I just hope that he doesn't dance like my Dad does at weddings.

There might be a bit much dad rock on the Pyramid stage this year but with all the other stages pulling it off the balance is restored. Last year had the likes of Newton Faulkner, Scouting For Girls, Hoosiers and Duffy on the Other Stage (all of which are rubbish and mostly appealing to housewives) but this year's Other Stage line up is extremely good for new/alternative bands. I find it really sad when people base the lineup on the Pyramid stage when its just one in 20 odd stages.

As the poster above said "regardless of your age, good music is good music" and I know plenty of teenagers into the likes of Neil Young, Springsteen and CSN mainly due to being brought up on their parents' music. I guess the moaners have parents who listen to shite music and therefore don't have any affintity to the rest which is a shame because the 60's and 70's had some of the best and most innovative music in the history of rock/pop - they were literally pioneers! To have the chance to see some legends in action is really appealing to me and anyone who claims to like music should really feel the same and I feel slightly sorry for anyone who doesn't.

That said we're all free to see whoever we want. It's just great that there's so much choice!!

Edit: I'm 30 by the way and just as an indication the last two gigs I went to were the Cribs at the Ritz then Eric Clapton at the MEN with the next ones being Oasis at Heaton Park, Doves in Delamare Forest, Glasto then Pete Doherty and Elbow in September
