KOL are indie.

All i msaying is i like music from all genres. I however only like the bands that are good at that genre. Call me close mindedness all you want. How many people would welcome death metal to the festival? None.

Theres been little mention of any true hip-hop, metal, or dance acts, beyond the obvious.

Nothing announced today excites me in the slightest :D

Its full of landfill NME indie shindie Little Boots, The Virgins, Crystal Castles (to add to the ever growing list of White Lies, Florence and Machine, Friendly Fires, The Courteeners etc)

Hair Straightener Rock - You Me at Six, Madina Lake and Fightstar

and bands that just don't do it for me Airborne Toxic Event, Manchester Orchestra, Patrick Wolf, Lethal Bizzle.

The only two I will watch out are Spinnerette and Frank Turner.

Faith No More will pretty much save this year for me as I am even disappointed in the Lock Up this year even especially with the headliners though I am looking forward to Bouncing Souls, Mad Caddies and Snuff, I can see me spending lots of time trying to discover some new bands on the FR stage and in the Alternative Stage this year.

I am really trying to look forward to this years festival but so far I am only going to see Prodigy and Deftones on the main stage and possibly Sonic Boom Six.

I know it all comes down to personal taste but this year has to be the worst for my taste ever, I doubt I will buy a pre sale ticket like I usually do.

Whatever the line up though I am going to have an amzing weekend.

I can't say I'm over the moon about the new additions but then again alot of the acts I've heard nothing of so i'm looking forward to seeing some new acts.

The only complaint I have is I feel alot of the acts announced would IMO normally be Festival Republic bands. I hope that perhaps this could mean a few older bands on the Festival Republic stage.

well me happy about few of the new ones as heard of them but not heard of them if that makes sense?!! as use leeds as chance to see and investigate new stuff and tbh I would go to leeds to see FNM alone....

can see clashes happening already and FR and dance tents are still tba as spend lot of time in both last year

I seriously think thats how most people judge who is or isn't indie these days which is mad. To me an indie band is a band on an indipendent label, or at least a band who have a DIY aproach to music, artwork, videos etc. KOL just aren't indie.

fair enough, but Download is Reading's main rival in terms of history and fanbase.

Well you can either use the traditional, meaningful definition of independent labels, or you can use the incredibly common reference to the style of guitar-pop prevalent in Britain nowadays. But KoL, even their poppier latest album, doesn't really conform to that style.

Personally, I reckon that the musical differences between KoL and Radiohead are far greater than the differences between RATM and the Killers.

I'd agree the Download is Reading's rival in terms of history, but I'm not so sure about fanbase any more. I'd say Reading's line-up and fanbase is actually more akin to V now. Download goers aren't really going to consider R/L as an alternative, V goers might.

I think Download goers consider Reaidng as an alternative, I know a few that do, especialy last year with Metallica and Ratm.

An indie act to me is a band with a strong personal vision that takes a DIY aproach to their music and art, and has less traditional and more obscure influences than a more mainstream act. I think an indie act can be on a major label, it's just very rare because major's will rarely allow bands complete creative control which an indie band should have.

Id consider download the main rival.

But i suppose its down to what you like best about leeds.

If youre there for the "indie" bands, then V. If youre there to see Metallica and Deftones then Download.

I just dont know that much about the underground metal bands compared to bands on the lock-up, so download is a bit of a waste of money for me.
