Neil Young Vs Ray Davies

Defer the decision.

You'll probably find that you know by the time it's important.

(I was hugely conflicted about Radiohead vs SFA - but by the time the day came, the choice had become obvious)

I've seen both of them, and Young wins out. He is mind-bogglingly brilliant on a big stage. Saw him at the Apollo M/cr, and at the Hop Farm last year and the latter was easily the best live perfomance on an outdoor stage in the history of humanity. But the album Chrome Dreams II was the main source of his set-list, and this album is IMHO one of Young's strongest efforts in years. His newest album I'm not quite as keen on (yet), but as it's Glasto, I think he'll pull out more of his out-and-out 70's classics - i.e. Harvest era stuff. Would love to hear Like A Hurricane - seen twice with no trace of this particular opus. :D

I saw Davies at the Bridgewater Hall a few years ago. First night he pulled out ill. Re-arranged for three weeks later and then he turned up two hours late due to a pile-up on the M6! He did pay for everyone's parking though and provided a free drink for all, so he proved his class right there. And he was very good - a warm and friendly character. Far more chilled out than Young, who is frankly a lunatic, even now (in the best possible sense of the word 'lunatic').

But yep - for me, the worst of the clashes on the line-up is this one.

I have the same problem, as would love to see Ray as well.

But as others said, this is Neil Young.... on the Pyramid....With the Specials playing before!!.

:D:D:D

Ray can be very good with a full band but I think it will be more of an acoustic set. Neil Young will probably be one of the best acts of the festival.

Ask yourself: if they are both equally good but you can't see both at Glasto who are you most likely to be able to see another time? That answer has to be Ray Davies.

Therefore at Glasto go for Neil Young.

Definitely my toughest clash. I was so hoping that Ray Davies might be down a notch or two on the list.

Neil Young vs. Doves was my initial clash, and I went with NY...am leaning towards NY now vs. Ray Davies. it could be a classic glasto set and wouldnt want to miss it.

plus, i'm not going to say "oh, i saw Crosby, Stills and Nash, but I passed on Neil Young" at Glasto 09

I'm not going to see either, they don't float my boat, but given that choice, Neil Young every time. He's still making urgent, angry music, he doesn't tour that often and gigs like this don't come along every day. I think this has the potential to be one of those classic sets that peple talk about for years to come (far more so that with Springsteen imo). Unfotunately, I can't stand his voice, its like nails on a blackboard to me.

Ray Davies is a bit of a parody of himself these days, it's pub singer time and aside from that, you can go and see him at a smal intimate venue without too much hassle in the future, I'd have thought.

usually to sort out a clash I try to decide which one I'm less likely to get the chance to see again.

So in this case it would have to be Neil Young, Ray Davis is great, but, as a jobbing musician, he does still play and tour a lot, whereas Neil Young may not return to the UK for years, if at all.
