will you need a sick note?

i had a week off once with a frozen neck - was well painful and meant that i couldn't even work from home as was laid out. i did get a sick note from the doctor, but becuase i went back bang on the week deadline i didn't need to hand it in.

although a violent sickness bug would probably be more in keeping with your pasty, exhausted (and possibly 'fragrant') appearance when you return!

you should probably consider getting a fake tan a couple of days before you're struck down as well or your fabulous glasto-tan may raise suspicion

Muscle spasm of the back.

Summer flu ( and its topical)

Glastroenteritus ( learn how to spell it first)....a fancy name for the squits but it sounds better.

Reaction to a bite......horesflies are good for this....very seasonal.

Ear infection.

and finally..........Crabs!. (not pleasent but no one will ask questions or want you near work)

Did they refuse you hoilday? if they did and you don't turn up they will know something is up.What i would do is take of the couple of days before glasto and say you hurt yourself over the preivous weekend you would be off for a week but its easy enough to get a doctors note nowadays.Good luck

I did this in 2005 - couldn't get the time off work so I pulled a sickie. Not proud, but I couldn't afford to throw £150+ down the drain. Said I had a urinary tract/bladder infection (extra grossness so boss wouldn't quiz me too much) and took five days off. No need for a sick note, sorted! I'm sure my then manager suspected something, but he couldn't pull me up on anything.

Other illnesses could include:

Sprained Neck/back/ankle - take your pick!

Conjunctivitus - added bonus of being contagious

Ear infection is a good one as jamseyboy says

Think contagious and/or think painful... something will come to mind!

Concussion you got from being at a gig - you fell off the stage after stage diving/got booted badly in the head and so on. Worked for me at least twice in the past.

Impetigo is beautifully contagious - get a few fake scabs to wear for a day or two beforehand and say you're going to the docs on, for example, the monday night and then phone in reporting your impetigo on the tuesday - they'll hardly come round to check! When you return you can tell them all about your nephew/niece/friends kid etc who has a real bad case!

You shouldn't need a sick note (and in fact, many doctors won't issue a sick note) unless you've been off for more than seven days including weekends. But yes, be careful that you're not expected to call in each day, be careful that your boss won't ring you at home if you don't, and check you're entitled to be paid for sickness if you're still in your probationary period etc.

I've got the same dilemma, i have set holidays, 1 person at work knows I'm going but can be trusted.

i have to phone in each day before 2pm, i feel kinda bad as others will have to pick up the extra work but I'm sure others at work have pulled sickies in the past. i haven't been off for well over a year so i don't think its that bad.

I'm gonna try leave work early on the Tuesday, say with a mystery illness :D

I've been puzzling what to say is wrong with me, probably will go with the squirts it just seems the most believable. The mention of the word 'flu' at work means that just about every manager has to be informed immediately.
