Recommend me some bands to see at Reading?

Hiya, well I am a big music fan, but in recent years I havent really followed new acts. I like all music so have some bands to see at Reading this year. Like 11 in total and usually I see 20+ bands each year. So I was wondering if anyone can recommend a few bands, preferably on the lower stage that I could see. Any recommendations will be great, but if you could keep away from suggesting well known bands like Alexisonfire and Lostprophets I would be very grateful. This is your chance to help me out by recommending a band you love and want to see. Plus I thought it could help other people just looking for bands to see to kill some time.

I'll go with some of the recommendations already made in this thread.

Streetlight Manifesto - The band I'm looking forward to most this festival. Ska-punk style, think Reel Big Fish but x10 tempo. I'd say, without exaggeration, maybe the most talented band at the festival, the drummer and horns are absolutely incredible at times.

Mad Caddies - Similar to SM, ska-punk, but a bit more chilled out, hint of reggae.

The Gaslight Anthem - Very good indie/punk rock band. Very similar to Bruce Springsteen in many ways.

By a lot I mean 3 or 4 tracks. That leaves 8 tracks which are still great. For some reason all the reviews of Primary Colours have mentioned how The Horrors used to be a joke - well this isn't true and if you read the reviews of the first album it was actualy very well recieved.

I don't read critics' reviews. I don't see how their opinions are relevant to my own, or in fact to most people's.

But fair point about filler proportions. It is a bit too much, but could still leave a significant bulk of good material. I just wasn't impressed by the half hour of their first album I heard, or their live performance.

Well I love music journalism, it's a passion that probably developed before my love of music (due to being able to afford mags but not proper albums with my pocket money as a kid). Journalists opinions dont affect my own but they are great to read, esspecialy the classic critics - Lester Bangs, Ben Fong Torres, Charles Shaar Murray, sylvie simmons etc.

The Horrors have always been a great live act, they handed out some free fanzines at their shows with some great free cds (including a sublime girl group comp). They are a great band, new album is excelent.

The Black Lips genuinely the most exciting live band i have seen in the last couple of years. They're like garage-punk kind of but really light hearted, a bit like Oblivians and early Sonics (but more frantic).

So good and really nice guys. You should download some of their albums in this order:

1.Let It Bloom

2.Good Bad Not Evil

3.200 Million Thousand

4.Los Valientes del Mundo Neuvo (LIVE ALBUM)

^Thats their best (imo) three albums and their live album, listen to their live album to get a feel for their setlist as they very rarely play songs from their first two albums and if they do they will only play 'Juvenile' and 'MIA'.

Their first two albums are called (If you wanna check them out too):

Black Lips!

We Did Not Know The Forest Spirit Made The Flowers Grow
