What? You mean I had to put up with that persistent buzzing every night while there was a small spot up in Kidney Mead???

I partly blame the dimwit who was directing traffic tbh. Asked him which way to go for drop off & pick up and told us to to right instead of left, which took us nearly half an hour of traffic to realise.

Gotta park the car this year so a bit worried. not looking forward to the hassle really cos usually get my dad to drop me at the gates just before 8 and stroll in all casual like.

can't really remember how quickly the fileds get filled up with tents. When your sat by your erected (he he) tent with a can of cider by 8.15am the problems of other pitch finders tend to drift away.

I have noticed however that while noone would ever consider a 4 ft by 4 ft bit of waterlogged dirt at 9am by 8pm that evening it becomes PRIME real estate  Nothing quite like waking up on day 2 to find someone has pitched their tent right between you and your mate :P gotta watch the distance guys and not be greddy.

I'll be there for the opening. Last year was my first every Glastonbury, and I didn't arrive till Thursday lunchtime. Luckily my tent was already pitched, but I'm so looking forward to being there at the very beginning. I'll even be packing up Monday as well, which again is a first.

Will probably leave at about 5am, but I'm only an hour and a half down the road (M3, junction 4), so should get there in good time.

Yip yip! Peace x

I'll probably aim to get there about half nine, ten or so.

What would y'all say would be a good place to camp? Don't want to be anywhere that is too packed, after somewhere quite chilled but not too quiet (basically so I can get a bit of sleep at night) and also quite near the sights and sounds.

I'm looking to get there early

This is my second Glasto

First 2007 - Camped in Diary fields at around 3pm -

Was empty at top fence first so pitched parellel to end of path so earier to find - came back after a wander to find that it was a little squashed and still difficult from path to find - weaving around tents

My advice is to pitch close to amenities if possible , but not too close that you will have noise all night of

generators or crowds or smells! (lock ups,WC, food - useful in the night) , Face entrance of tent downhill and if possible set up close tothe back of another tent with not enough room to pitch another - that way you will have your own space still - It may seem a bit odd to park close to another tent in an emptish field

but it will allow you to control the space around you to ensure that you dont end up engulfed. Also look for landmarks or pitch a tent flag - again easier to get bearings in empty field in daylight - not so good in middle of night

Above all look after yourself and those around you - Don't trash the place

but have a cracking time!! (Earlier start the better in my book)

The entrance I was at there was no way to get in before 08:00 and it was getting pretty stressed out in the roadway with security trying to move people on who parked up on the verges. I think they opened the entrance at 07:55 as the traffic was jamming the road & a wide load was trying to get through. I was right by the gate and had arguments with a security guy who threatened to ban me from going in if I didn't move on.

I say all this to try and put people off getting there too early and nicking my little parking spot :)

You must have been around that way. I was in a proper parking bay, not on the verge and this big Security fella started on me telling me to move on, swearing and getting kind of frantic. When I refused he said that he would be on the gate and would refuse to let me in. I had kids in tow & started getting stressed but stood my ground, at that point they decided to open up the roadway and let people in. I don't want to go through that scenario again!!

In fairness we were aiming for 8am but wasn't sure what the traffic would be like.

I take it getting there for 8am is preferable as you avoid the 8-10 traffic also? So pretty much a straight run until you get to the car parks also, I'd assumed the roads would be heaving and would be piled up for a fair few miles even at that time.

Out of interest how does the parking work if you get there early, do you get rammed in at the back so it's harder to get out but also do you get closer to an entrance? Last year we turned up on the Weds night at about midnight and followed about 8cars infront who parked where they shouldn't have (but we didn't realise) and we ended up having good spot for grabbing our stuff and also for leaving, but did have concerns we were going to get blocked in when they filled the car park the next day.

Worked out okay though as they arranged the rest of the car park so we could still get out of our spaces.

Although they plan to open at 8.00 am , as I understand it they can only do so once the safety bloke

is happy with everything and given the all clear.

There was a delay the other year whilst the OK was given.

Thats what I was told anyway !
