Pilgrim S
1990 , great year The Cure headlined the one main stage , so many people turned up at the pyramid that a helicopter was brought in the winch people out from the crush at the front (nobody was badly injured) . Good times all round .
THEBOILERMAN
The helicopter was brought in to help a young girl who had been seriously hurt in the crush. She was airlifted to hospital, and was alright in the end. There were two stages, the other one was full of World Music and was very good. There was also a very small dance tent, which I think was there for the first time. 1990 was my first year as well, and my memories were how bad The Happy Mondays were, and how good James were. In general it was such an eye opener. Drugs everywhere.

PabloCoke
First time I went was 97 and I was 17, hitch-hiked down on my own, met a girl while hitch-hicking so we travelled with together, jumped the fence when we go there. spent the night huddled up for warmth under one of the big tents on the thursday night, and said our goodbyes as we went our separate ways to find our mates the next morning. found my mates and had one of the best weekends of my life, then hitched back and got a lift to my front door. brilliant muddy mayhem. gooner1990
I notice there is a lot of posts saying "drugs everywhere" - when did this stop? When I've scored at the festival its usually been up at the stone circle and not anywhere else! (once in the jazz field)
Aphex's twin
When I first started in 97 there were guys with signs at most of the crossroads blatantly advertising their wares and dealers walking around the tents shouting 'Hash for Cash'
JoeBananass
93 for me. Got there on Thursday afternoon - been to reading before, so was foolishly expecting something similar, but was totally blown away by how big it was. Loved getting lost all the time! Getting lost and finding the green fields at night for the first time was so cool! There was a massive shortage of camping space, and we camped on the actual pyramid field - had amazing views of the stage from our tents. I remember seeing the Ozric Tentacles on the other stage (or NME stage as it was then) while on a lot of acid on Saturday afternoon I think. We took turns to sit on each other shoulders and the person below would slowly turn so you could see everyone in the crowd - quite intense while tripping! The rest is a bit of a blur, all of it good! Oh yeah, Velvet Underground were on the pyramid too, unless that was 94. The drugs thing stopped after 2000 , when the super fence went up. now its pretty rare from what I've seen, especially compared to what it used to be like
coxy99
93 was my first Glasto. Drove down in my A reg Metro with 2 mates, had an amazing weekend. Its changed a lot since then...plus my ticket was only £58.
Howl
We eventually got over and we found that we had landed in the circus performers area.
kohoutec
There was indeed two giant balloons either side of the stage as you looked at it , in the sky , and they would throw a red or green beam from the stage to the giant balloons and the sky would light up . Think they also had a load of strobe lights behind the stage facing the sky , they would have the effect of the stage kind of taking off , and the sky would light up . f**king mental . Met one of them (bass player) the next year and bent his head for ten minutes about the show . The speakers business at the back of the field with the noise of machines and tractors and all that sort of thing was just as well thought out as the lights . The Orb knew the score alright. Bexxxxx
My mum went to the first ever festival (1970 i think?) where entry was £1 and you also got free milk from the farm . My first was 1993. I then went every year (bar fallow years of course) until 2002 when i took a break until last year. I shall be there again this year, and hopefully for many years to come....
